Not your favorite spot (spot and lake name) but spot, weed point, saddle, hump ect and why it's your favorite.[:)]

Where fish are biting. []

I call myself a structure fisherman. I need a target to throw at. I know that puts limits on myself. There are some very good fisherman friends that can fish in open water all day. Not me. As for my favorite, ROCKS, ROCKS and MORE ROCKS. That is what has been working for me. That will change. So really it all boils down to the first line.

Todd
Great question and the way I would answer it is the more complex the better..I would chose a hump or rocks that comes out of deep water and a super bonus would be to have weeds nice thick green weeds on top of the structure.

I have to agree with brad, I like complicated and multi-facetted pieces of structure. They just hold more fish and do it more consistantly.

Over all my favortie "structure " is bait fish in open water. Why? Because that is where the big girls spend most of their time.

My baits usually end up in the weeds...on the bank, but I prefer saddles, especially if they contain a rider....[:0]

My all time favorite "sructure" would be that elusive rock to weed transition area. The deeper the better. If there is an inside turn or point at this transition all the better. There will always be fish close to these areas. I know that there are very few absolutes in the Muskie world. But, if you can find an area where the deep weedline meets the rocks on a point or turn you are very close to fish, Spring, Summer and Fall. This is a classic tournament spot that will get the living bejeebers beat out of it during the tournament day.

Nothing new that hasn't been written about since the beginning of time, but here is what I consider my favorite spot.

Deep Water very near(even better if it's the main basin), a small spot in relation to the size of the deep water area.
Could be: a remote weed patch on shore, a weed edge to the deep water in the middle of the lake, a point sticking out into the deep water(sometimes these go much further out then you would expect), a hump or group of humps, a large submerged boulder and even better a combination of these things. The more complex the spot the better.

It will pay off for you to spend time exploring a lake. Especially if you plan on fishing it in the future. Maps are only a starting point, they do not show all a lake has to offer. Many times the best or big musky spots are not marked on "marked" maps.

One more thing, if a spot looks good and you don't move a fish, don't write it off as a bad spot. You wont see many fish on big fish spots, but when you do, hang on! Continue to fish that spot under different conditions. Sometimes all it takes is a certain wind direction, or time of year to bring a spot to life.

Todd,

You know me, I love to fish open water suspended fish, that is were you will see me most of the time.

Like Joel said, I'm after the "BIG GIRLS" and I belive that is were they spend most of their time.

Give me a saddle area between land and an island or two islands...with wind ripping thru it....

Just like the candy store opening for business.[]
