Jerry, Jerry, Jerry, technology is a slippery slope at best. Sure, your intentions are good, save some time getting to the lake, but........if we pollute you like this, what is to stop you from immediately making the jump to GPS lake technology and those awful navigation chips they have for sale??? Next thing you know, you are selling your spoonplugs, getting rid of the nobow, and generally running amok on one of our many inland lakes, meanwhile trying to hide your behaviour from the "faithful". Tsk, tsk, tsk.........are you really sure you want to walk down this path??? Help US help YOU!!! Don't drink the technology koolaid buddy...

The magellan gps's that we have let you put in coordinate's from the map books and takes you right to the ramp. Once I find it for the first time I save it in the favorites by selecting a spot on the map. It has worked great for us, other than the usual glitches like closed roads or detours. Works great in Vilas/Oneida counties WI. I have not used it in Canada ,so can't comment on that. Good luck.

I have always been a fan of Garmin. I have owned 3 over the last 8 years or so. I always bought one that could be used as a handheld because I could take it on the boat or to the tree stand. Right now I have a 60 CSx. It is great, but an older model.

If I were replacing now though things might change a bit...Now that I have stand alone GPS on the boat, it doesn't come out on the water with me. I rarely hunt anymore so I do not need portability there. For these purposes water proof no longer matters. I would probably buy a Nuvi. Usually when a bought a new one, I sold the old one on ebay for a little bit. In this case I may not. I would probably hold on to it for hunting.

There's an app for iPhone where you can search and map boat ramps. I have it. Only used it a couple of times but works well enough. Don't know if it's available for Droid/Blackberry. May be an option to suit your needs.

I have the factory installed GPS that came with my GMC Yukon and it works well for this purpose. Marty Forman

Fsf,
I appreciate your concern but we won't be selling any lures any time soon, and its "nobo" however little do you know this note is being sent via 6 or 8 G cell phone. What do ya think of me now, call me mr techno thank you! question, how the heck do ya type on this thing without hitting 2 or 3 buttons at once, please excuse any miss haps, Also I've been in your neck of the woods lately and as I pass by all these nice looking ice free reservoirs I'd like to get I little preview before putting the boat in.

Another thing that would be quite handy on the dash board gps would be a radar function, boat ramps and a weather radar for around $300, is that asking for too much?
One more thing mr fsf a rich girl friend at the time bought me a 520 (I would have never bought that thing) and I've even learned how to log sonar. mmm cooolaid

Merry Christmas!
