Posts: 2361 | Here is a general question that can cross lakes and states, On good musky water, how frequently do you encounter a total skunk day? (And I would call a total skunk day as no strikes) On poor musky water, how frequently do you encounter a total skunk day?

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Total skunk on good water, maybe 1 out of 10 days. On low density trophy water, that can double for me.

Posts: 433 Location: Cedarburg, Wisconsin | Depends on what you call good water. I've gone two days on LOTW without a sniff when the weather turned really bad. We caught pike and bass but never saw a musky, then the third day we caught five and missed another half a dozen, but the largest was only about 42". On the Canadian trout lake I like it is nothing to go four days without a hint of a musky. Then if the conditions change to favorable, which isn't very often like maybe twice in 30 years, it is not out of the ordinary to get multiple 30# fish back to back and have another ten fish show up in the same places you've been fishing. The flowage I fish in WI has bigger fish available, but again it is nothing out of the ordinary to go six or seven days spread over a couple weekends and come up dry. If I could fish it on consecutive days I'd expect to get some kind action at least every third or fourth day. I consider all of these to be good musky water because they have the proven track record of producing 50# fish. Many years ago I've fished a couple small U.P. MI lakes where I've averaged catching 3 a day. The fish were all cookie cutter versions and it is a small narrow cutter. I haven't been back to these lakes in over 20 years and have no desire to either. Poor water in my book.

Posts: 485 Location: On my favorite lake! | I think it really varies on the lake. Pressured lakes you are probably more likely to have a skunk day. I fish the Fox Chain and usually see fish but have few strikes. Lake of the woods in two weeks of fishing I had 1 day where I did not get a strike.

Posts: 183 Location: Grand Forks ND | We seem to get skunked most of the time, but when we do catch fish they're all pretty large. In five years of muskie fishing I've only caught one fish under 44". We've had terrible timing this year--every outing has been over a major cold front.

Posts: 619 | this year i get skunked more than ever.....probably get skunked about 50% of the time, maybe more....lots of days - not even a follow or a sniff - not a pike ..... last year had a few more multiple fish days - and only a couple mulitple fish days all year this year....hopefully next year will be a different story - getting used to getting skunked stinks Edited by Slow Rollin 10/22/2010 11:12 AM

The Ironman last week on Monona was a skunk with 8 hours of not even a drive-by, this seems to bug you more. Your all hyped-up about the tournament and concentrating more every cast and nothing. That ride home was a be-ich. If someone would of wanted to bet that I wouldn't see a fish that day or better yet that both of us wouldn't see a fish..... Oh well, Sometimes the Bear Eat's You........

Posts: 8781 | Canada? That would be a disaster of a day. I'd say one in 10 turn out like that Northern Wisconsin? Bad day, but not unheard of. Maybe 1 out of 7 Central Wisconsin? Tough day, but that's fishing. 1 out of 5 Southern Wisconsin? Wouldn't be happy, but considering where I'm at I expect that to happen 1 out of every 3 days IL (Fox Chain)? I'd say half the days we don't even see a fish, and that's what I expect. Incidentally, I am rarely dissapointed!
