I am heading up to Minnetonka Saturday, should get in about 5pm fish till midnight, and fish again Sunday morning until the idiots get out there, then head home. 330 miles one way, seems crazy but the wife is out of town so why not. Just looking for any pointers that may help speed the process up for such a short trip. Thanks

If the weather is at all decent, the pleasure boats will destroy you saturday night

I don't want to rain on your plans, but driving 330 miles one way to fish Tonka on a Saturday night when it's gonna be low 80s w/ light winds sounds like a recipe for major frustration. You'd be fine early on Sunday morning, but Saturday evening will be nuts out there.

I would strongly advise against this plan. I live right next to Tonka and routinely drive hundreds of miles away to fish on the weekends. It will be a zoo on Saturday.

Go to YouTube, search "big island" minetonka. Should pop up some very interesting party on the water videos. I wanna fish the lake as well but... only when it gets cold apparently

I don't even like fishing Tonka during the week when it's calm anymore, and I live minutes from a ramp. Metro fishery is circling the drain...

I agree with most on here is it can be frustrating during the day time hours, but once sunset rolls around into darkness the madness tends to go down and you are able to fish spots. Just be prepared to be pulling a lot of weeds off your baits as the floaters can be a pain in the butt depending on where you fish.

I still think it is a waste of time if the day was nice. I've had nights where i couldn't fish anything but a spinner. Too many chopped up weeds. I miss the no wake days

Fished this morning. Temps around 73. Raised 2 in my first 5 casts. Had one them up 2 more times and nipped in the 8. Not a waste of my time. Had to get off the lake at 11, the "blender" (waves) was going pretty good.

Well apparently it was "Tonka Days" or something, the lake was a real disaster. Was neat watching the big fireworks show, and listening to a concert. Fishing was tough, did have one hooked and lost at about 1:00 am. Other than that pretty tough for us.

If you're going to fish Tonka on the weekend you need to be ready to fish all night. We have been doing alright on Tonka at night. After about 11pm the boat traffic goes way down. Sorry to hear that you traveled all that way to get skunked. It's definitely not a lake you want to travel very far too until the kids go back to school and it gets colder.
