I admired your PB northern pike. Heck of a fish. I am wondering, what are the prevailing pike lures in your neck of the woods? Well, your neck of the world?

I use the same lures as you guys use, bulldawgs (Me personally rarely use the pounders), cowgirls, gliders you name it. We basically use the same gear aswell, but we dont see the need for saltwater reels, and we usually use no more than 65lbs line. I also make my own lures that I use

One of the reasons I hang out here, is to get new ideas/inspiration. And I picked up quite a few trick when I visited Wisconsin in 07. Steve W. learned me alot about fishing with spinnerbaits, which is one of my goto ever since.

The fish posted in the weekend reports was my heaviest fish, I got a 50" last year, but she was skinnier. Michael

Michael,
Do you ever catch them on spoons? If so, what is the largest you throw?

Ive never used spoons much. But most people when they start pikefishing uses them. But they are still the most used lure amongst "regular" pikeanglers. On most other species (in salt and freshwater) spoons are the most widespread lure out there.

Norway is on the list of places my wife and I would like to visit. Probably not for many years, but I'm curious if a part of the country is better known for Pike than others?

South and South Eastern parts is the best. South East has more anglers and one hear about more big ones for that reason. The lakes here in the SE actually has boatlaunches, and in S, where I'm from, most of the lakes don't have boatlaunches even tho there are more boaters there, but they are in the salt element

If he does, he should make sure he stays under the Norwegian Plan.

Hehe lutefisk is really nasty :S Lefse is good, with cinnamon and sugar, yummy!
I was out again today, we boated 2 43"ers and a 45" And one can see that their bellies are starting to fill up. We were bulldawging the breaklines, and the 45" was caught while having a trolling-lunchbreak on a spicker stikcer, awesome bait.

Leech Lake Strain: yes it would be awesome. Even tho I would have to travel faaar to fish for muskies, I still think that the hardest of the 2 are already caught, I think 50" pikes are more scarce than 50" muskies...

Pic of the 47" from last weekend can be found here:

And yesterdays fish.

Michael

I would agree with that, in some of your best waters what is the ratio of pike caught to finally land a 50 or upper 40's for that matter, one lake not far from me here for muskies is 1:4 for a fifty but it will take you all summer to catch 4 fish, some others close by are 1:10, 1:20. how many pike do you typically catch on an outing over there!

As everything else, it depends. On some lakes on a good day (moonphase, weather etc.) 30-40 maybe (I know people that have 100+ days between 2-3 boats), but then its usually no really big ones a couple low 40's, maybe. Other days you get only 3-5 fish, 1 really nice one and the rest would have been lunch for that one biggie. Yesterday there was as many over 40 as under And then theres the days like this: http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/articles/05.18.2009/2320/The.Day.of... Michael

No I didnt catch any pikes there, Steve W. did however. And yes I had a few contact with ski's and landed one, quite a few followers and netted a few for the people that I shared boats with.

Nice fish.  I thought I'd post a couple of pictures of two pike caught by Carlo Aimonetti in Lake Maggiore, Italy a few years back.  Both were well over 50 lbs. and caught just weeks apart.  Carlo and I fished on LOTW the year before he caught these fish.  A very nice gentleman and a heck of a fisherman.  I've posted these before, but it's always nice to see big Pike.
