What is the best handheld GPS for using on the water? I'm going fishing with a buddy and want to use the handheld to get a good trail so I can follow it with my boat and save it to my Lowrance HDS 10. I would like to get it out of Cabelas.
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Reed Findlan

Garmin etrex legend cx works great for me. I have the lakemaster chip in it and it is color. Nice little unit.

You may want to stick with a Lowrance handheld, being you have the Lowrance in your boat now. Probably know the Lowrance menue well. Get one that will read your lake chips.

I've used the Lowrance H2o for a couple of years and really like the unit. The Lake Master and Navionics chips are interchangable with my mounted gps / fish finder.

Good Luck,
Nick

Lowrance ihunt,H2O, and Expedition. All work with the same type chips. And menues are the same. The lowrance chip that works the 520 generation fish finders will work all of these gps's. But I think the Lowrance hds series is different, if so, I doubt the hds chips will work in these handhelds. Lowrance does have newer type handhelds which maybe compatable with hds series.

I have a Lowrance H2O C in the mail, should be on my doorstep today when I get home. I know it's hand held, but do you guys have small ram mounts for them too or how do you typically fish with them?

Yep put that thing in a ram mount on the dash or bow. They also make a special holder that GPS snaps right into.
