Posts: 156 Location: Oconomowoc, WI | The best place I have found for Knipex is http://www.crawfordtool.com I have purchased from them in the past and found their pricing and service to be the best. I just looked and the price is currently $38.50. I understand everyone's budget is different but for under $40.00 (the cost of 2 lures) I think Knipex is an absolute no brainer. Posts: 158 | muskie-addict - 8/9/2010 10:09 AM Alright then. Don't think about it in terms of a $20k boat....think about it in terms of $12.99-$35+ baits. Instead of buying one or two baits next time you're out shopping, buy a decent bolt cutter. If you're like me or most guys out there, we buy a half a box full of new baits each year. Take 1-3 of those baits out of the lineup and you've got your Knipex. Or, pick a handful of baits you never use, throw them on ebay, spend the money on an online auction for a Knipex.....on ebay. -Eric hahaha...I had this same argument with myself back in June...I spent a small fortune on baits over the winter but I kept putting off buying the Knipex...if I'd have only not bought those 2 "blah blah blah" baits I could have had a pair of Knipex I told myself about 2 dozen times. Finally I got on ebay one day and there was about 4 different auctions about to end for new Knipex...I picked the lowest auction and put a bid in - 4 days later they were in my hand and cost me $31 shipped....less than one of the baits I'd bought over the winter. Rods, reels, line, leaders, net, baits, blah blah blah, just get the knipex and be done with it. I'm stunned at how easily they cut hooks. I used to work in an ER in Alaska and as soon as the salmon runs would start so would the line at the ER to have hooks removed and those hooks were half the size of an average muskie hook. In 4 years I probably removed about 50 hooks from people bodies after the hooks snapped back at them when the fish made a torpedo like run like salmon do.....some of the girlish screams those dudes let out just to inject the lidocain to remove the hooks were loud enough...I cannot imagine how loud a guy may scream if their hand is connected to a giant tooth filled mouth by one or more 7/0 hooks. Posts: 642 Location: Richfield, MN | Ok so I have decided to get the best bolt cutters that you all are saying to get. But now with that said there a few different ones. I have found them for anywhere from about $30 to $45 as far as the 7121200, 7131200 or the 7141200 series. Now what works best a angle cut or a straight cut. Is it better to have a sprin return or would just the normal work just as good. Give me some clues on either angle or straight with or without the spring return. As always I really appreciate everyones input!! Thanks Mike

Posts: 1727 Location: Mt. Zion, IL | I like the spring return cutters because if i have to reach into the fish's mouth too far, i can keep my fingers out of the way of those teeth. I had some that were not spring loaded, and sold them to get loaded ones. I am much happier now.

Straight cut, no spring on mine. Work great. Just depends if you want to pay a couple extra bucks for the loaded cutters. Can't go wrong with either one IMO.

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | I guess I could see where the angled jaws could work well in certain situations, but I think I would get the straight jaws. That's what I have and I never felt like I needed the angled ones. Spring vs no spring is up to you. Mine don't have the spring and it hasn't been a problem, but I can see the cutters with the return spring would be nice at times. Like Musky Madman said, if you want to pay a couple extra bucks for the spring I don't see any downside to the spring. Overall, any of the knipex mini bolt cutters will work great. curleytail

Posts: 214 Location: Beaver County, Pennsylvania | i have used knipex and my klein electrical cutters and they both work equally in my opinion.....knipex's were stolen and my kleins cut through any musky treble hook they come in contact with no probem at all.
