For those of you that have used a Trinidad, is there an advantage of the size 12 or the size 14? Both have the same inches of line retrieved per crank. I know some prefer the 16narrow, but it sounds like you can only fill the spool 3/4 full, so you end up with about the same line retrieval as a 12/14. thanks

Posts: 1663 Location: Kodiak, AK | I have a 14 and a 16N....the 16 is a handful, but it burns them. Don't know about the 12, but the 14 is a 400-sized reel and is very comfortable in the hand.

Posts: 743 | Yes but, is the retrieve easier on the 14 compared to the TE? That's my question. If you don't want a big reel like the 16N, will the 14 be between the Te and 16N in speed and ease of retrieve?

Posts: 1663 Location: Kodiak, AK | Sorry, I thought the question was about the size of the 12 and 14. But if we're talking about TE's, I've got a 400 and 700 and while I've never quantified it, or sat down and done the math concerning line pick up or speed, in my mind there's no comparison between the Trinidads and the TE for running blades. I know alot of guys run TE's for the blades, and I did the last two years. And they work well...until you do it with a Trinidad and see how much more speed you've got and how well they handle the load of the blades. I've got a power handle on my 400 and it made a huge difference, but it still feels like I'm overworking the TE's getting them in quickly...not even burning, just getting them in at a decent speed. And this isn't to slam the TE's. There's a reason I'm not selling mine- they're awesome reels. I'm just speaking of double 10s moving at high speeds, which is where they shine. To answer your question concerning the TE, yes, the 14 is faster than the TE, but slower than the 16. And I don't know how much faster the 16 is, if at all. Again, understanding that the spools aren't all the way filled, and again the fact that I've not quantified it, or done the math. But the larger power handle on the 16 seems to make it easier to pull than the 14. As such, the 16N seems/feels/appears faster than the 14 in my hands. It may not be, or may just barely be, but I use a 16N for bucktails. I would easily run the 14 and be just as happy though. They're both fast reels. But take this for what it's worth....I've only been using the Trinidads for about a month. I bought both of mine about a week before they went on sale! So that's how long I've had the Trinidads. I just switched because my 700 level wind crapped itself after a month on the water. I'd had enough with level wind and took the plunge into the Trinidads. I was very happy with the TEs, but now having seen the Trinidads work the blades, they're here to stay. For me at least... As far as line pick up, I've got my Trinidads fairly full...not all the way of course, but probably more than alot of guys run them. It's not been an issue, so I'm sticking with it.

Alright I've got a Trinidad and use it to burn blades love the real it handles them with ease. One problem the line still stacks on one side and then create its own backlash on the next cast. Not everytime but often enough to iritate. I keep the rod tip down and the pointed right a the lure however it still stacks to the left side more than the right. I've tried torqueing the reel to one side to compensate but it makes no difference. Current line is tuf-line 100lb I'd continue useing this reel and fight the problem but if I could get this little issue fixed it would take this reel from good to great

Posts: 547 Location: Oshkosh | Guest, I was having the same problem as you are having, so I took of some line and it made a world of difference, and have no problem at all with speed with less line.. Peter
