Posts: 619 | looking for a really light, around 8 to 8 1/2 ft rod. looking for something really really stiff. basically hardly any give to it unless a big fish is on it. i use fig rig XXX heavy now and the rod is just too heavy in weight. i like the stiffness. anyone have any recommendations on a super stiff but light in weight 8 to 8 1/2 rod. something easier on my wrist. THANK YOU

Posts: 196 | well, I just picked up a reaction strike rod that seems really promising. It is called the jerkbait/rippping/pounder series rod. It is a super heavy 8'6" rod. The lure weight is 5-20 ozs. It seems super stiff and doesn't weight much at all, I have a St. Croix legend swimbait rod in 8'6 , it is a lighter action rod but the two weight about the same and my legend has the thorne bros full cork, same as this pounder rod. You have to watch for them, but they retail for around 170, I picked mine up for 70. In case you're not familiar with the name, they are the ones that make the musky innovations bulldawg rods. Actually truth be told the warranty card goes to musky innovations. Anyway, it might be worth a shot for what you are wanting, my buddy bought one first and we tried his, you can snap cast a pounder!

Posts: 1184 Location: Iowa Great Lakes | Not sure on the RS rods but the MI rods will be heavier in physical weight than your Fig Rig is... I would call Thornes and talk to them maybe one of their C series??

Posts: 540 Location: MN | Slow rolling if you call Thorne bros they now have the predator in xxh I'm going to order mine within the next 2 weeks. If thr reaction strike is the same as the MI rod STAY AWAY it will be worse than your fig rig.

Posts: 4343 Location: Smith Creek | St. Croix's Big Dawg LTM86XHF is light and stout. About 15 to 40 % lighter than any other production rod of a similar lure rating.

Posts: 909 Location: South-Central VA | I think the LGM102XH from Lamiglass is right there with the Big Dawg as far as weight, but not quite as fast. It's more of a moderate-fast action. jeremy Edited by bowhunter29 7/25/2010 9:28 AM

Just got back from Canada and had bought an 8'XH rod from Tackle Industries and it was awesome! I have two high end rods that cost me over $300 each and bought the TI rod as a backup and after using it for a few casts on the first day it became my main rod for the rest of the week! Threw swimbaits and bucktails like a dream all the entire trip. Not sure what the XXH is like but I strongly suggest to try one of these rods.
