I'm looking to pick up a couple new toro's. I'm fairly new to muskie and don't have much experience with musky reels. Alot of you seem to be using the 60 size. Can I get away with using the 50 size with 80 lb powerpro ? Will my retrieves be coming in too slow at the end of a long cast because of the shortened width of the 50? or should I just get size 60's? Thanks

Posts: 443 Location: Indiana | 50 works well, I went that way for even more comfort while palming it. The 60 isn't uncomfortable, but my thought was, if I am mainly buying this for comfort, why the wide spool? I am happy with the 50 for everything. If I were a double 10 burner often, I would likely buy a 60 for that as line pick up at full cast is different.

Width affects how much line is on the reel. When there is less line on the spool........guess what...........the diameter of the spool becomes smaller thus affecting your line intake for a brief period of time. A wider spool means it takes much more line off the spool before there is a noticable difference in spool diameter and line intake.
