I have an Evinrude 90 Etec that I am putting a new Solas SS prop on this week and want to make sure the prop does not disappear. Anyone use prop locks on their props? If so, what one do you use? I will be storing it outside later this month and want to lock it up. I have found McGard locks for about $50. And another one one by another company that is like $180 (pretty expensive). Any help would be great.

Thanks, Tom

I have the McGuard on my prop. It works great. An added bonus is that if you change props often you do not have to worry about spare cotter keys. I use their lugnut locks on my truck as well. They use the same kind of socket.

I dumped mine on eBay back this winter. I think it went for 30-45 bux, something like that. Dont' remember off hand. May have been less.

Reason I dumped it is because I could not get a cotter pin through the hole in the output shaft the way this one was set up. Made me a little nervous. My boat doesn't sit outside ever, nor does it sit long enough with public assess for someone to get at it and cause mischief or steal my prop.

I had a McGuard brand ...sp? The teeth that came on their special wrench were OK, but you couldn't really crank it down like I wished to w/o it slipping, or feeling like it was about to. That, and if you're someone who's ever-fiddling around with new props or who takes off the prop with any regularity to check for fishing line, etc.,, I can see those meshing teeth starting to wear down and possibly not engage the recesses on your McGuard nut nicely at some point after repeated use like this.

Just my take on it.
