Subject: Trolling motor won't turn right

Over the holiday weekend my trolling motor stopped turning to the right. It was a real pain having to turn the motor by hand when I wanted. The speed control went out (doesn't spin under speed 5 and 10 does not seem to be full speed anymore) at the same time. What happened? It is an older MK Powerdrive - 40lbs thrust. I am planning to take apart the foot pedal to see just how it works and what may have went wrong but any ideas on where to start would be great.

The pedals probably shot. I get about 2 seasons out of my powerdrive pedals then they stop working. You may be able to fix the problem but mine are usually rendered junk. It typically wears thru the board and corrodes the pad out.

Agreed...I would say your pedal is due for replacement. I have found that just over time (mine went 5 years) and although I did not get any wear through to the point of corrosion, I believe the pressure on the contacts just finally gets to a point where the contact no longer has enough pressure to work correctly.

Quick and easy fix with a new pedal.

thanks for the replies guys. I was hoping I wouldn't have to buy a new pedal but I'm sure that will fix the problem.
For you guys that have replaced them before, maybe even mulitple times, what is a cheap retailer for pedals?
After some quick searching I found them at $75.
Is this a good price? I suppose I should check ebay too

I had to replace my Minn Kota Powerdrive foot pedal this Spring after about 5 years of service. I got it from Amazon.com with free shipping. Currently they are selling for something like $62 with free shipping.

take it in, my guess is a board that is acting up and also fried the board, been through 8+ boards, and my motor is in again, works great then all of sudden it goes through boards.

You could try and put a few pieces of tape underneath the circuit board. I was able to get through a season on mine with that fix.

I just fixed one a couple of weeks ago it wouldnt turn left. Sometimes it would if you did it just right. I tore it apart and if I used my hand to push on the circuit board it worked fine kind of like the plactic was wore out that hits the circuit board so I put in a very thin shim. (I actually cut out a piece of a plastic arrow vein) and placed it between the plastic nob and the board and WALLA!! working like brand new again. Keeping my fingers crossed. My pedal is only on its 3rd summer.
