So, forgot to put the cover on the unit on the bow on Saturday night, I have it sitting the the screen was almost horizontal. Big storm came thru Saturday night. Took it out tonight, the unit will not power up, and I figured out it had a lot of water in it. I was able to shake a bunch out of it, can I just let it dry out and it should be fine, or am I going to have to send it in and get a new unit? I searched as I thought this had been brought up before, but couldn't find it.

TJ - you out there, you'll know right? I'm going to be very upset if I need a new unit, hopefully I don't?? Good thing is I believe it was a 2yr warranty and I just bought it last summer so it should be covered if I do need a new unit I think?

I'm guessing you'll need to send it in. Yes, the unit has a two year warranty, it'll be taken care of. Unfortunately some of the very first ones had issues with water getting in, haven't heard of any of this years models having issues. I will touch base with my Lowrance contact and see if he has any other suggestions. Best thing, just give the number a call at Lowrance and get it figured out.

I just had to send my HDS 7 in that I got last May due to the seal on the screenand they are sending me a new unit. On my unit the bottom of the screen was sunken in and that's where the water was getting in. Have the sn# ready before you call so you don't have to wait forever twice.

Your GPS has a waterproof rating specification (IPX-7) that basically means that you can immerse it in 1 meter of water for at least 1 hour. No way it should have water in it from being out in the rain - cover has nothing to do with it.

That may be true, but many of the early HDS had issues with the3M sealant around the screen failing. If the seals fail, waterproofing is out the window. The HDS7's were the worst, but it's a known problem, and is supposed to have been addressed. The recessed screen is diagnostic of the seal failing.

Heres a good post for Lowrance. Got my return number last Monday morning, only waited on hold for maybe 5min and got through, the guy I talked to was not "nice" but was efficient. Shipped it out via Postal Service a day later very late (after 5pm). I had email from them of having received it and having my new replacement already boxed and shipping back on Friday. Got it today. I'd call that a pretty good experience, at least this time around with quick turnaround.
