You know how stuff always goes wrong w/ your first outing of the year- yup! steering cable on trolling motor broke after first 15 minutes up in the east arm of Lake Arbutus. Tried fishing by reaching over bow & turning motor by hand then hit button. But that wasn't to much fun in the rocks, etc. after ~ 15 minutes of that I gave up. However, did have a 19 1/2" Smallie whack a Little Jake (Durst Purple)that I was twitching, beautiful fish. Put a heck of a bow in the rod, great fight, but the old 65lb PowerPro did it's job (first & only fish into the boat this year). Unfortunately didn't see any Muskies in the limited time.

The trolling motor is a circa 1985-89, Johnson 12V/24V w/cable steering. The cable connection snapped in the pedal. Anyone know of a parts source, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Anon- Well you stated the obvious! So much for your observational skills. No wonder we live in a throw-away society. Broken cable- buy new motor. I suppose if your throttle cable broke- you'd go buy a new outboard motor. Give me a break, I was asking for some honest help, not stupid advice.

I had a white Johnson 12/24 1987.Cable busted probably 3 times in 14 years.Always in the spring(maybe should have lube it or something) then it might just turn on its own. There are 2 different ones.Remembering from 5 years ago-Mine had a quarter size washer or connector that went into the foot pedal/the other did not have this piece..Best to call you your marina and find out who can (ORDER) you one.Probably should take it off and bring it in.It was tricky to put back on/ easy to take off. I think you have to twirl the cable around when you put it in/instead of screwing the nut in(just guessing/remembering).I had mine put in for about $30.Just tell the marina that you broke it and you are going fishing in a week and they should have it in in a half hour.Otherwise just ask a mechanic for his advice to put one in.I met a mechanic after work because I was on a fishing trip and mine broke and the owner of the marina said it would be done by tomorrow night,-I was only fishing for 4 days and I did not drive 500 mile one way to spend 2 days off the water with a broken cable. Good luck, Roy

Al,
You might try calling the Motor Clinic at 881-0898.I'm not sure in the area code is 612 or 952 .They are in Bloomington,Mn .Possibly the Shakespeare web site may be helpful. This company may still be in business ,Corens at
773631-5202 . They are extremely helpful with rod or reel
parts and repair and might know someone who can help you.
