Looking to upgrade to a new boat next spring and wondering if anyone has a guess at how well/slow a 25HP will push the Esox Mag. Here in Illinois many public lakes have a 25 HP restriction. I seldom make it to waters that allow larger engines. Love the layout of the Esox Mag.....

Additionally, I have yet to get a straight answer on the rod box length in ALL THREE Esox models. Catalog gives a length but want to know the actual. I can't believe the Mag only has 8 ft..... rod box. Dealer told me they are longer but he did not have one in stock to actually measure. Any info appreciated.

Esox LTD and Esox Mag are listed at 8'. They may take a little longer rod if you move it to the side and lever it in a bit. A 25 will power the Esox Mag, but it won't be a speed demon by any stretch of the imagination.

I have a 40 hp on my Esox ltd and with three guys and all of our gear, it takes over a minute to get on plane. I also have 3 batteries and a casting deck in the back. When two guys sit way up front it will plane in 10 - 20 seconds.

I don't think a 25 hp engine will ever get a Esox Mag onto plane if you have it loaded down with gear, people, and gas.

I can barely get a 7'10" rod in my box. My Tuffy is a 1987, so the length has probably changed.

setme31,
I'd bet you are over-propped. That boat was designed to run with an Evinrude 35 which was powerhead instead of prop shaft rated, so a newer 40 would be quite a bit better out of the hole, and should do better than you are experiencing.

What Fiedler said; the boxes on the Esox Mag and Esox LTD are the same length. Listed at 8', but an 8'6" will 'fit', just not flush to the floor. The Tuffy Factory number is 800.359.4416. Mine is 715.680.9265. If you want more specific information about one of the Tuffy Boats lineup, that or [email protected] is the way to get the information.

Also, Mike at Marine Diversified just over the WI border in Wisconsin has a 2010 Mag in stock. I believe Gary at Heartland in El Paso, IL has one or is getting one in that's sold, but he may have it there for awhile.

As I said above:
'Esox LTD and Esox Mag are listed at 8'. They may take a little longer rod if you move it to the side and lever it in a bit. A 25 will power the Esox Mag, but it won't be a speed demon by any stretch of the imagination.'

Hope this clears up any questions!
