Location: New Hope MN | I'm interested in camping out on the Canada side Rainy lake this year. Do i have to buy a permit and if so where do i get one?
Are there any resorts up there that allow it. I usually prefer to rough it anyway.

Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | you will need a permit yes....And resorts that allow camping usually have campsites on the resort grounds, not rustic sites like you are picturing so I don't think that will work for what you are looking for. |

| I'm curious about the permit as well. A few years back my dad took me to a spot in NW Ontario that he used to camp when he was younger. We no more than got on the water and a game warden waved us down and told us we couldn't camp on "crown land" or whatever you call it. It's funny because my dad never saw a sole there in 20+ years...until I go!
Ended up driving back down this logging road, over 100 miles just to find a resort that allowed camping. The game warden never did give us a straight answer about permits, etc and I haven't done any research. To this day I've always wanted to go back though. |

Location: Eagan, MN | I camped on crown land last summer. I seem to recall needing two permits... one for camping and I think the other is some type of access permit which is good for several years. A few weeks after I got home I got a permanent copy of it in the mail. Anyway, all you need to do is get them when you buy your fishing license, they'll explain everything there. |

Location: Home of the 2016 World Series Champion Cubs | Be cognizant of crown land canoe(voyageur)routes. Some lakes are part of designated canoe routes which are camping accessible to Canadian citizens ONLY. And these routes are patrolled and enforcement action is frequently taken. |

| crown camping permit on crown land or go to a campground and pay their fees but don't do both only one or the other crowm camping is not neccasary on campgrounds. |

| "non canadians" must pay to use crown land
i guess the land still belongs to the queen
the reason some islands are "closed" is because of misuse, over use or critters are nesting especially eagles.
i've never heard of crown land designated strictly for canadian use but being canadian i used all lands without worry , so i could and probably am ignorant on this one
i have wildernessed camped many a time near US campers, they never had a problem with wardens, ever, but that tells me they had all fees taken care of
we have to pay to use alot of wilderness spots now. this has been going on for about 5 yrs
my butt has spent countless nights in a tent on an island somewhere in Ontario, Quebec and Alberta, but since a purxchased a cottage i now spend every wkend in a real bed (old age)
