| Do you guy's feel that you catch more fish trolling faster, say at least 4 to 4.5 mph when the dog days of summer hit?
or
Do you do just fine say trolling at 2.5 to 3.5 mph?
I often notice that when the temps get hotter, the only wat to get a fish to hit my bucktail is if I'm burning them as fast as I can, does this have anything to do with the hot temps or just a coincidence?
I trolled the other day for a good 6 hours @ 2.5 to 3.8 mph without any action, when I increased my speed to 4.2 to 4.8 I nailed a nice little 38".
This could be just because they decided to turn on or it could be because I sped up a bit and this turned them on. Not to mention that I only got the one fish, it could also be that I finally found a hungry fish willing to take my offering.

| My uneducated guess would be the possibility of a combo...warmer water/higher metabolism...speed gives the fish less time to react, therefore "grab + go"....and the fact that you found a hungry fish...these theories are based on the information given + are in no way shape or form set in concrete; although as I read over them they do resemble a scientific thesis...would you like that combo BIGGIE sized?[:0]
** one thing I might add...down here if the water is hot on top it will be hot down to as far as 20ft. w/ little variation since the water is basically very clear, + rarely do I fish in the daytime, so I must wait 'til fall to give a more accurate account... |

| During the dog days, go fast! start at 4 and keep speeding up until you find um! |

| Ralph, absolutely. Not doing anything right now untill I hit at least 3.5mph and caught one going almost 5. |

|
| Definately correct. Haven't seen a thing doing anything less than 4.0mph. Tuesday we trolled 3.5 for 4 hours with not a thing. Went to 5.0mph moving to a spot and nailed one. Doing between 4.5 and 5 we hit 4 fish in less than 3 hours.

| Landed a 44" as well as 3 others at speeds up to 8 mph.
also 5 or 6 pike last Sunday [] |

| Jerry,
What kind of baits are you using at those speeds?
|
|
| |
|
| We use spoonplugs 99.9% of the time, however I have been more and more experimenting with larger baits,, some run well at higher speeds but most do not.
The one thing I can say at this point is these lager baits really tear the fish up in comparison to the spoonplugs. |

| I start at 4 MPH in the spring and as the temps go up I speed up so by the time the temps hit 75 I am going 5 MPH and up. All 3 trolling fish today came at over 5 MPH maybe 5.5 MPH. [:sun:] |
