| Thought i would keep with the poll theme that seems to be going on ask what everyone's favorite casting leader length is. I like short leaders under 12" but noticed a few manufactures start their leaders at 14".
What is your preferred length?

Location: In a shack in the woods | I use only stealth and I think they are 14" but I am also casting mag dawgs and pounders right now. I might be overcompensating but I don't really own any small lures.lol |

| I just ordered some custom 16" leaders from Stealth. They turned out great. I like the longer leaders for larger lures such as large topwaters, double 13s (13"-15") and big rubber lures. It's a good idea for the leader to be a couple inches longer than your lure so when you backlash, or whatever the rear hook catches your leader and not your line. That'll prevent fraying.
Also, when fish roll in your line...I know it's happened to all of us... you want your leader to be as long as possible to prevent your line from wrapping in their gills and being cut. What's worse than a muskie swimming away with trebles stuck in there mouth and line wrapped around them? With muskies having girths regularly around 15"-20" and upwards how long should our leaders be???
Also, I feal like my presentation is a little more "stealthy" the further away the ball-bearing is from the lure. Crazy? Probably. |
