| This just started happeneing today. About every two hours my motor would quit and the bulb had to be reprimed. I did not see or smell any gas leaks of any kind. Does anybody have any ideas? |

|
| Todd, let me guess...a Johnson?
Was fishing from the Shady One's boat last weekend and he was telling his "vapor lock woes" all day. Over the course of about 5 hours of fishing I'll bet he had to prime 7 or 8 times. The heat might have something to do with it. |

|
| Todd;
sounds like you have a small leak somewhere causing
a vacuum loss. |

|
| I had the same problem with my Tuffy and I run a Merc. It was a small fuel leak. My fuel line from the tank to the engine had about 6 pieces including the bulb and at each connection there was a plastic "zip tie" like what you would use to tie electrical wires together. I removed them all and got these metal crimp clamps from a local marina and made all the connections with these clamps and problem solved. Problem is you need special cv boot clamp pliers to make the crimps. I had a pair because I am an auto mechanic but not a tool most people have laying around. |

| Todd;
Try small hose clamps with screws ! |

| That was kind of what i was thinking, just looking for some clues. I have a 60 merc. Thanks for the info.[:)] |

| Currently experiencing the same thing on my 2000 Opti. Apparently the primer bulb has a check valve in it that can go bad. Some people have to replace their primer bulbs as often as every 3 years I've been told. Its a realtively cheap part. Give it a try. |

| I have this problem too. Although not very often. When i first got the boat I could never get it started and the bulb would never get hard. I tried an hour to start it...and the whole time...the hose was on backwards |

| Had the same problem with an Evinrude some years ago. My trouble turned out to be a deteriorated diaphragm in the fuel pump. Bought a rebuilding kit for the pump and had the engine running again in no time. Just another possibility. |

|
| The ghost in my machine(Merc) was a hole in the pick-up line inside the fuel tank which allowed the engine to suck air & the fuel to run back down into the tank. It had no effect when the the fuel level was higher than the leak.
Leaks on the pressure side, between the bulb & motor, should weep fuel. You may not see fuel from a suction side leak, from tank to bulb, as it may only allow air to enter the line.
If you can continually pump the primer bulb w/o reaching a "peak" pressure & you aren't finding fuel anywhere, the check valve is bad or you have a a suction side leak. |

| Wow, I can't believe I just now saw this opportunity to rip on you a little, Todd. It's all that FIB gas you been using. Eating up the pick tube in your tank! Does it seem better with a full tank, and get worse as the level drops? Then look to the tank.
Tight Lines,
