Posts: 96 Location: Eau Claire | Anyone have any idea how they get videos like this? Is the camera attached to the line, or a pole? I have a Fish TV thought it might be cool to set over the edge of the boat to watch follows. Cool video anyways.

Location: Green Bay, WI | Aqua-Vu camera on a down-rigger cable, with a adapter. It's a piece of cake, and the setup will cost you about $200-250, give or take. This assumes you have a down-rigger of course, and I didn't...so that cost another $150. So I have about $400 into it. It's great fun. | Wow. Great video. It looks like one of the many, many fish that have followed my lures in the lakes and reservoirs of Western PA. I know they are down there, even though I can't see them. And they never, ever, strike. Never. Oh well...

tcbetka - 5/25/2010 4:06 PM I would not say piece of cake, unless of course you can get hands on training like I did from Don Schwartz. To just go out and get everything set so the bait is centered takes time and patience. Filming a bait swimming is one thing, getting actual fish footage takes many hours. If you don't believe me, I have about 1000 hours of video for you to look through without a fish. When it happens it is a great feeling! Accidently deleting a fish clip can happen........live and learn.Aqua-Vu camera on a down-rigger cable, with a adapter. It's a piece of cake, and the setup will cost you about $200-250, give or take. Location: Green Bay, WI | Well, I will admit that I spent about 2 hours in the boat with Don myself one day, basically talking about his set-up. But now that the kit is available from Aqua-Vu, it really is a very simple process. In less than about 30 minutes (after I got the down-rigger installed) I was up and running with this technique, and it required only a little experimentation to keep the lure in the camera view 99% of the time. So I'll argue that it indeed a very uncomplicated process, thanks to the fine folks at Aqua-Vu! But I am more than happy to discuss this technique on the phone with anyone who would like more information--just PM me a contact number. I'm sure Don wouldn't mine an email either, as he is unquestionably one of the foremost authorities on this technique. TB

Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Lindner Media uses a pole the camera head is attached to that is mounted to the camera boat for many of the underwater TV shots. We have a similar setup, and will be incorporating the new Aqua Vu technology into our Studio to allow us to record video in HD for the new upload.outdoorsfirst.com site coming very soon (for an example of the new video upload, look here:http://www.aimfishing.com/video.asp?id=2418--let the commercial run and video load). The new OutdoorsFIRST on the Ice/Water video will be complemented by hydrophone audio hard water and soft. Our new software and the On the Water Studios we built allow us to record above using a special camera and below the water using our Aqua Vu and our special wide angle camera head for up to 160 hours directly to a Dell Mini 10 or Samsung 10, and synch up the tracks in Final Cut, so some of the action video this season will be more challenging and more entertaining as a result. You will very soon be able to shoot HD, as was the example above. We'll have that ready to go soon, plus, we have the encoder set up to allow iPad and iPhone viewing.

Posts: 272 | Nifty stuff. My question is, how long is it before we eliminate the downrigger ball and all the related rigging and wires....and aren't just restricted to trolling with this video stuff. There are teeny, tiny pinhole cameras available at Radio Shack that you can put on a model airplane and send up into the sky. Sound and everything. And a pretty decent picture. Radio controlled airplanes are fairly weight senitive to boot, just for a weight reference. Anyway, a pinhole camera stuffed in the skirt of a bucktail.....now all you need is to somehow send the signal wirelessly, whether via FM, Radio, IR, etc., back to a TV screen on your dash or bow. We're seeing near ultrasound quality sonar images from Lowrance and H-bird, like looking at your unborn child in momma's belly. Saw that one coming. I see this coming. Can you imagine what you could do if you could see what's behind your bait during a cast? -Eric

| very nice video. It just slays me how those fish will come up and actually bump the bait as if playing with it. very nice. ty for letting us view it. | |||

Accidently deleting a fish clip can happen........live and learn. I checked out some of your video Todd...great stuff! I can see why you spend so much time at it--you get excellent results. That footage is in a different league than simply hanging a camera on a down rigger adapter. Very cool! I could not get the 4 videos embedded on your home page to work though. Instead, I went to the sample videos right on the YouTube site itself. Am I doing something wrong? Impressive results though...very impressive indeed! TB

| Thanks for the positive comments! Like I stated earlier, I learned from the best (Don Schwartz) by spending 2 1/2 days running two cameras on my local waters. In those 2 1/2 days we put 7 fish on film without a strike. Reading how to do this is a start, but having a hands on demonstration will lessen the learning curve immensely. I will be spending my entire season trolling and filming waters in Northern WI. and MN. My ulitmate goal is to get some great footage for manufacturers that have been kind enough to work with me. Stay tuned for some very exciting clips! I will have to check my page and see what the problem may be. Edited by FYGR8 5/27/2010 11:34 AM | |||

Location: Green Bay, WI | They seem to work now Todd. Great footage, and incredible detail. You do nice work! It would be very cool to see a fish come up to the lure, given the resolution you are using. I am simply using one of the stock Aqua-Vu cameras (I forget the model), but I am not trying to accomplish the same thing you are of course. But I love the detail you are getting. TB

Location: Green Bay, WI | Isn't she a doll! SWEET!!! I can't wait to get out there again this summer, and give this another go. It'll likely be in July though, with the water temps so cool yet. It's only about 54-55 degrees now, so the fish are still in the bays as far as I can tell. Guys have been seeing them while fishing for bass, as I have been told. There's a lot of water in that big pond out there, so it'll probably take until July for them to be moved off into water deep enough to video troll effectively. But I plan to get out there and have a few whacks at it again this year. I have yet to get a fish on video though--but that should happen this year. Just need to find me some dumb fish... Thanks for the clip! TB
