Location: Des Moines IA | Why is it that when I trailer my 1700 Osprey with a Console 70 Horse Suzuki, the motor turns either to one side or the other? How do I tighten that up? |

Not sure what the Tuffy series of boats used for their steering systems, but if it turns easily, my guess is that it is not what they call a "no feedback" steering system. Our neighbor's lund boat is without the no feedback and if I let go of the wheel at all, I'd be circling and potentially thrown from the boat.... If you don't have a no-feedback steering system, you probably feel a bit of torque at lower speeds and when trimmed down, with the tendency of the motor to always want to turn left....not uncommon.
If this is the case, I don't believe there is a way to tighten it up. I believe you would need to replace your steering column...

Are you using a transom saver? |

| It has no feed back steering, and I am using a transom saver. The motor still turns to one side or the other during trailering? |

Location: Minneconia | I'm replacing my helm right now on my Ranger 618....no way to "tighten up" they just wear out. Especially with the help of backing a trimmed down motor into an uphill driveway and some sandbar incidents.
PS - if you can turn the wheel by pushing the motor from one side to the other, it needs replaced. Makes a good case for hydraulic steering even for smaller motors(mine is a 115)
