Heading up north in a few weeks and looking to explore some new waters for a few days. Looking for numbers type lakes more on the quieter side. I'm eying up Harris Lake, North/South Turtle, and Anabelle to name a few. Anybody know anything about these lakes or have any other suggestions for quality lakes in that area? Private Messages are welcome and any tips to go along with our "research" would be welcome as well, thanks!

my suggestion to you would be to go to the skyview and spend some time with the folks there. they are a wealth of knowledge and very open to help visitors with area lakes. they do guide there too, but are the kind of folks who are unassuming and willing to help people.

it's also a great place to stay with fantastic food and atmosphere.

good luck

heard good things about the place, rates look solid, and the food looks even better....looks like that might make a nice home base for a night or two thanks Sled

I second Skyview...Adam will be willing to help you get on whatever fish you're looking for on whatever lake you're looking for. Great place to stay, eat, and drink.

I spent two days on north/south and rock lake last october. Absolutely beututiful from what im use to fishing in. We seen 12 muskies the first day and 3 the second day several betweem 38-43". Ive heard fish Harris lake if its rainy or cloudy very clear lake. If you on the turtle chain pound the heck out of south turtle lots of weeds to fish her. Ther are also muskies in Birch and Papoose(not sure about the spelling) You might as well visit rollie and hellens while your up there. Good luck!!
I will be there again this year in october again.

Another vote for Skyview here.

There are a number of lakes to choose from in that area. Harris isn't really known for numbers or size, but there are muskies in there, and they are usually thick and healthy. Harris can be tough on bright days due to the water clarity. The main lake basin is devoid of structure for the most part, but emerging weeds on the South and West ends of the basin can hold some nice fish. Early in the season I'd start with dark/stained lakes like Oxbow, probably easier to find fish shallow and easier to fish on bright sunny days. Horsehead can good in the Spring as well. If you're looking for numbers, Presque Isle and Crab would not be high on the list. The good thing about that area is if nothing is happening on the lake you are fishing, it's a short drive to a completely different lake ecosystem. I can't comment much on the flowages, other than to say that they do have a reputation for some very nice fish.

Before I fish anything, I'd ask around town about the water levels. Many of the area lakes are down several feet from normal levels, and may be difficult to navigate or even launch your boat.
