I know many of you have very nice boats for your musky fishing, but I'm sure some of you started out like me. My boat is a 14' Lund with a 15 horse Johnson outboard on the back. It has a small trollin motor on the back and a eagle fish locator graph. I'm hoping to modify it a bit to add a casting deck. Hopefully in a few years I can move up to a larger boat[:p] , but for right now I will be out there in my Lund. Just curious as to what some of you guys started out musky fishing in. Thanks.

circa 1968: My first musky fishing boat was a 14' homemade runabout powered by an old (and I do mean old - 1949) 15 hp Merc . After a few seasons, I overlaid the hull with fiberglass and upgraded to a new 20 hp Merc. Fishing a "no wake" lake most of the time, that was more than enough hp.

Mine first boat was a 14" Mirocraft with a 20hp Merc (old blue and black) with a shorelander trailer. Build a front deck in her with brown turf carpenting.

She was a muskie machine and got slimed alot..[]

Used it 7 years...bought it for $1400 sold her for $1750

Not a bad investment!!!

I boat my first boat when I was 16. It was a '68 14' starcraft semi v with a '72 9.5 johnson. I took it to college and galavanted all over southern wi. with it as well. Was a great little boat for me.

Not a bad boat at all. My first boat was a 12' plastic boat with only a trolling motor (30 lbs of thrust) Its plastic and weighs 109 lbs. It is rated for two people, and veeeeeeeerrry tippy.

A $100 12' alum sears(?) with wooden seats and an oooooooold 8hp evinrude I got for free (but it ran perfectly after a tune up!). Next is what I have now, a 14' Blue Fin that I sorta rebuilt on top of the previous owner's rebuilt job. I replaced/added the seats, wiring, running lights, motor, trolling motor and fish finder. Plus I totally stripped, repainted and rebuilt the trailer with stainless hardware, waterproof lights and trailer guide-ons. I'm not a real, real handy guy by nature, but I was able to do all the projects pretty easy.

Take a look at the Old Muskie Picture thread. I have a picture of the rig my Dad and I fished from, and he gave to me to use here when I moved to Wisconsin. It is a 14' Alumacraft with a 6 horse Evinrude. I caught many good skis out of that rig, and learned plenty, too!

gotcha all beat!!! my first boat was a 6' inflatable raft- used it to fish farm ponds and small lakes around home. progressed to a 10' john boat with a sears elect. trolling motor, then a 12' wards semi v with a 5 horse, next a 17' bass tracker/40hp merc combo, and now a 18' crestliner with a 125 merc. don't think i'll be going any bigger on boat length or hp any more, actually will probably downsize a bit next time... [;)]
enjoy your rig, if it smells like fish, it's all good!!!!
