| Heading up this weekend. My first time fishing this water for muskies. I am planning on mostly fishing the north end/river. Hows the launch at Devils Elbow? Any information, conditions, or reports would be appreciated.
thanks,

Location: north central wisconsin | The launch at Devils elbow is in great shape. The water levels are as high as I've seen them this time of year, in a long time. Hpefully we can maintain these levels. Temps had been up into the high 70's, was 71 the day before yesterday, assuming it to be a bit lower today with the rain and highs around 58 today.
Good luck this weekend! |

Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | If it's your first time on the Pete, you would be well served by getting the Lakemaster map. The Pete, has some really large stump fields, especially where you come out of the river section. Even out in the main section of the lake there are very shallow huge stump fields. Stumps that are 2-3 ft across are not uncommon, and even after + 60 years they are still very well anchored to the bottom. If you are in less than 4' of water, you are probably in or very close to a Pete stump field. Actually you probably have enough water in the Devil's Elbow & Chester Creek area's to keep you fully occupied all weekend, i.e., no need to get up on plane.
Also be aware of the new WI 100' from shore no wake zone - it applies to the Pete, and folks w/ cabins & residences in Devil's Elbow area will be watching you....
I've seen some pretty nice fish pulled out of those stump's. If you venture out in the main lake..... be very aware of the weather/wind conditions, it can get very dangerous in a very short time frame.
Have fun!
Al

| Thanks for the words of advice Al. Well aware of the numerous boating hazards and planning on doing all travel at very slow speeds. I'm not in a big hurry when I fish new water. I have 2 or 3 maps, but not the lakemaster. Just going to take my time and check it out.
