| I just got an email from Shannon the good looking blond owner of Indianpoint Camp on Wabigoon. She says if you call and say MUSKIEFIRST sent ya.. You will get 10% off this fall. She has some openings so give her a call. ***************************************** Hi there--I am going to run a 10% off regular price if you say (MUSKIEFIRST sent ya) special from now until close. This is for fisherman only, not for the hunting. I also have 1 bull moose tag left for the archery season, and room to still take a few more bear hunters. My web site has been updated on the pictures, check out the fish species and then go under more musky. Shannon ********************************************* www.indianpointcamp.com for details. This a very clean and comfortable camp where you can drive your truck right up to your cabin. I recommend if you have three days or more vacation time to use it up here. Worrall will be happy to mark a map for you!. For a look at the lake check out this site with all the hazzards marked check out the site below. Its an easy lake to fish and as long as you use your head, you should not have a problem with hazzards. http://www.wintle.on.ca/wabhazarddisclaimer.html | |||

| Jason, how strange is this lake? And how many hours from Milwaukee in terms of driving time? How good/bad are the roads? Is it totally isolated from other musky water or are there other lakes near by that can be fished if one starts having an unhappy trip on this one? (Also your last two trips do not seem like great add copy, is this lake real hit or miss or have you just had a couple of odd trips/weather combinations?) Does the water clear any when the temp drops or can you expect "milk" most all the time? thanks. | |||

| FSF.....You are just full of questions. 1)Strange...not very. I do know it has lots of large muskies in it. 2)11 to 12hrs from Milw depending on if you are a lead foot or not. 3)Roads are ok...502 was under construction early due to heavy rains this spring. 4)Osborne bay on Eagle is just 15 minutes away. 5)Actually, my first (3) day trip in Mid August was good. We only caught a couple of fish in the 40's, but we moved many...and I mean many large fish. Only problem, it was flat calm and 97 degrees in the shade for those days and we just could not get those 50+ fish to pop. My second trip was very early July and they dropped the water 4 feet when I was there. The weeds had just started showing up from a late spring. It snowed there May 25th and was cold and nasty in June. The fish were a bit behind but we did move some and got some mid thiry's fish to pop. I would say now the fish should be rocking. 6) Worrall can answer this question better because he has fished it many times late. Infact his biggest fish came in September. Wabigoon is aging and only on very wind swept areas does it get milky. Most of the time you can see two or three feet. But I have fished LOTW under a bloom and thought it to be much worse to work with compared to the wind swept milky areas. Would I go back....in a heartbeat! [] | |||

| More questions for whomever then. I had been under the impression from people who had fished it that visibility was really poor in this water and it was real white and all the fishing basically centered around 1-4 foot weedline. Glad to hear that is not the case but the color was one of the interesting things about it to me. How deep are fish normally contacted on the cast? I was reading the ad and note that there is a chain? of lakes, are the other lakes accessible by boat and if they are separate but accessible do they have musky populations of note, or are they just attached and not carrying high populations(ie fishable with good expectations). What would be the activity at late august period up there? In a normal year? If the lake is controlled by a dam which it evidently is, is there normally a slow draw through the year or does it often tend to be quick rise and fall? Do you have classic structure or do you have to cover long weedlines to contact fish? I see a couple things such as a hazard map that kind of worry me, is your lower unit at risk up there or is it pretty navigable to get from spot to spot? Is Eagle covered on the same license as Wabigoon? Good hydrographic map available or one of those maps with just numbers not contours? Do you need to have GPS when fishing on this lake or is GPS a definite advantage on this lake? How far are the runs from spot to spot or area to area? thanks | |||

| The Goon is actually part of a chain of lakes created by damming the Wabigoon River in Dryden. There are several accessable smaller lakes on the chain that are clear water, easy to get to by boat. Dinorwic is down the lake to the east from Wabigoon, about the same size and alittle clearer. There is a website that has all the GPS coordinates for the known hazards, Jason can post the link if he still has it. There is a good map available from the Ministry of Natural Resources or Indian Point Camp. It isn't necessary to get crazy with travel there on the water. I have caught most of the pigs over the years within 8 miles of camp, and most within 3. The structure is absolutley beautiful weedlines which one MUST fish shallow, and reefs/points/islands with all three. A 57" fish was caught about 30 seconds from camp this spring before the opener, and I have caught several in the 40 to high 40 class across from there on Anderson Island, and know of several 50s from there. There is an excellent milk run one can set up that will take no longer than 3 minutes between spots, will keep you within 3 miles of camp, and will have you on the correct water for big, big fish. Walleyes are pretty easy, BIG pike VERY easy, and muskies pretty common, but this is not 'numbers' water. If I have 6 in the boat for a week, I am VERY happy. Thing is, I feel every cast I throw there can get me into a fish of a lifetime, and if I get a few during a trip, the average will be mid to upper 40's, with a great shot at a PIG. Let me know if you are heading up there. I would be happy to mark a map![] | |||
