Location: Kodiak, AK | I've not handled an Elite, so I'm only regurgitating what I've heard...the Elites have storage for 3000 waypoints/100 routes and the HDS will take 5000/200. The HDS offers networking options not available with the Elite, LSS, Sirius radio, etc. To the best of my knowledge the Elite don't have broadband sonar, which is the HD capability you mentioned. The HDS also come with a two year warrantee, where I think the Elite have a one year....but I could be mistaken. It all comes down to what you're looking for in a unit. If you want sonar and a map, the Elite will work. If you want HD, LSS, more screen options, networking, and the bells and whistles, HDS is where it's at. And don't overlook the HDS 5. It's more than the Elite, but for what you get and the options the HDS allow you down the road, I'd say the $100 is well worth it. The broadband sonar alone is worth it in my book. It looks amazing.
