I had my 1990 Tuffy out over the weekend with about 8 hours in the water.

Today I was changing out the older graph and when I backed out the screws on for the bracket that held the speed wheel, water started to drip from the screw holes.

I left the screws out to let the water out.

Any suggetions on next steps?

Thanks.

Hiya,

When you reinstall, just put a dab of silicone in the holes, then screw back in. If anything, you might need a larger screw if the hole has stripped a bit, but that should be it.

Just want to add a little to what VMS said. You want to put the silicone in the hole first, but then take the screw and put silicone around the screw, by doing this, it'll seal better around the threads of the screw. Make sure to put silicone around the head of the screw once you have it screwed in.

Thanks guys. I will let it dry out a little more and then seal it up.

Steve , TJ,
Gentlemen,
Why do you suggest silicone instead of Goop. Goop has better adhesion. Stays longer than silicone and can be used on a wider range of materials........Also, polyurethane glue can be spread into a hole and then nothing will soak into wood.....
Just asking?
have a good day

Marine Goop will work fine, yet silicone sealant is effective and does a great job sealing up a screw thread.
