Mercury 50hp 2 stroke 2007 on a Lowe stinger 175. My last boat did not have trim on motor, only three settings . Down,up, or in the middle. New boat motor trims up and down ,but I can only cruise at idle speed with the prop just under the water. While it is trimmed up if I give it any more gas than idle the motor automatically goes down. Is this normal?? It has done this from the day I bought it, and after seeing some guy's cruisin pretty good with the motor up ,it has got me wondering. Same with power loading the boat, If I did that the motor would go right down and slam into the ramp. Thanks!

Sounds like you need some fluid in the system. Any odd noises while trimming up and down?

Sounds a little different when it's all the way up as well as when almost all the way down. Just a matter of filling up the hydrolic oil??? I have never done that.

I have a somewhat similar problem. My motor does not want to trim all the way down for some reason. I will trim it down as far as I can, then when I start moving, sometimes it will drop into place, sometimes not. It is not being hung up on anything on the sides. Seems to be a problem with the trim cylinder itself but I don't really have a clue. Also, when I trim the motor all the way up and am drifting or trolling around, the motor will slowly lower into the water like there is a pressure leak in the system. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been running this way for a year and a half now and would love to fix it, just don't want a $500 bill from the marina.
