hey what kind of boat do you have??? The burts custom mounting gear is pretty awesome and it mounts flush to your gunwhals.

I bought a set from Overton's. They have then in 12, 18 and 24 inches. I installed them on my boat and use the DownEast Rail-Mount Salty Series S-14rod holders. Works great!!! Below are some links
