Beav generously gave this old dust farter a couple. They now travel from rod to rod!! Life saver for us guys with some miles on us.[]

This might sound Kind of crude but, I take the end cap off the rod (carefully) and then use ether a bolt ( or round steel) the right diameter and length for the weight needed. Then put some silicone glue inside and slide the bolt in and glue the end cap back on. Works great and you can not see it.

What's the advantage of using a rod with a balancer on it?

The balancer takes all the 'weight' off the rod at the point where one holds the rod, and allows for MUCH less wrist and elbow stress. I can also fire a lure WAY out there with a flick of the wrist, effortlessly. The rod feels like it weighs nothing.

I checked out the bass pro website and they only had ones that screw into the bass pro rods. I might have to try the inserting of metal thanks for the tips!!

RK turned me onto the NORMARK Rod Balancers a few years ago. They are removable, adjustable, and indestructable. I can't even imagine fishing without them. I get mine from Thorne Brothers for about 9 bucks. Best investment I have ever made!!!!!!

Just got a couple from Bass Pro(a friend was there) for Handyman and I for our st. Croix 8'ers. They work great and slide right over the but in seconds. You can take them off and put them on a different rod immediately if you choose.

I have counterbalanced my rods for years similar to the bolt idea. What I use is 1/4 or 3/8" lead rolls....they are usually used for weights in surgical tubing....done alot up here for salmon fishing. I just take a hammer and pound however many pieces I need into shape...glue, or silicone them in the end of the rod and slap the butt cap on.

For anyone who hasn't done this BE SURE you check the balancing with the reel on the rod....it makes a big difference in how much weight it takes to balance the rod without the reel on. Just a thought.
