My Pop has a 7000 that he doesn't use any longer because it isn't instant anti reverse. So my question is ... Is it possible to convert an older push button 7000 to instant anti-reverse?

with stock garcia parts, no. With a lot of fabrication, yes. Not worth it IMO. Use the 7000 as is and you will be surprised as to how well it handles. They are my go to musky reels.

Thanks, he'll probably be selling it then.

There also is a great advantage to the older style 7000 without instant anti-reverse. When night fishing, if you happen to reel your bait up to the swivel, the reel automatically backs up a few inches to keep the swivel off your tip-top.

These are my go to reels for night fishing. I prefer the slower speed 4:1 for this application.

Hope this helps,
