| I need to buy one more rod this spring (Untill Next Year!) which i'll use for Mag Dogs, Pounders, Supermodels etc.
Current Inventory
8' 6" XH Lamiglass- Lighter Baits
8' H St Croix Premier - Jerkbaits
9' H Predator - My Favorite- Medium bucks to Cowgirls, Topwaters Does everything but the big stuff!
I love my Predator and am thinking about getting another (9' 6" XH) Predator Rod for the bigger baits. I will never go shorter than 9' after fishing longer rods with the exception of my jerkbait rod.
If you were to have a rod built for this application what would you purchase or have built? Length/Action/Power/Blank

I love my Predator too. If money is not a issue for you, then I would go for it. LOL I just had a 9' XH built a couple months ago by Frank (Franks Customs), and couldn't be happier.
I have a lot of different blanks, and this is definitley my favorite. There's a number of options out on the market in that 100.00 to 150.00 range, that are nice rods. I don't think they can be compared to the predator though, and in respect to the price difference, shouldn't be. Here's a little sample of the wrap designs, from the Predator that Frankie built.

I have always been confused by this view. So high price = high quality ? If I charged $225 for my rods would they be equivalent to other rods in that price range or if I charged $350-$400 would they be just as good a St. Croix?
My buddy has an MBA from a big time school and has sold a lot of stuff in his life. He has told me many times I will sell more rods and lures if I raise my prices because people do think that way....they equate high quality with high prices. Not sure how to overcome this by charging a decent price but getting the point across that my products are high quality. I guess word of mouth is about the only way.
Just a few thoughts, not trying to bust your blls Chas  I know you were not referring to my rod directly. I have seen that comment a few times and heard it many times at my full time job when we are figuring out the market value of our "widgets". It is a funny phenomenon that happens with consumers a lot of the time. I myself am trying not to move my product lines in that direction.

It had nothing to do with your qaulity product. Is ithe Predator better then your line of rods because it cost more money? I have no idea? I'm not smart enough to answer that question.LOL

Location: Land of the Musky | LOL Chas. That is an interesting business issue though. Fortune 500 companies spend millions just debating that question. I bet I spent 40 hours in meetings last year with 4-8 people in the room discussing price points. For Predator quality, I have yet to hear of that rod failing any quality issue so I am sure it would do well for anyone. They make a great rod from what I hear but I have not used one yet myself.
For my rods at the MN show, yes. They will be in two booths I think. Getting it figured out now. I think a guide booth will have 6-10 and another booth will have 6-10 rods. I will let you know when they confirm.

Location: Iowa Great Lakes | I'll also say to give one of the Tackle Industries rods a try, I love mine. I also have a Predator Heavy and love it also Don't let the price fool you the TI rods are as good as the Predators, at least IMO. |

Location: APPLETON, WI | Just bought an 8'6" XH Mag Heavy from James last week. Haven't had a chance to try it yet... but the craftsmanship and quality is superb. I'll be buying a 2nd one this year from him. For the cost equivalent of a "custom" Predator or a Legend Tourney... I can get the same rod from James at Tackle Industries, plus have a LOT of extra cash to apply towards a reel, as well.
It's a no-brainer for me. |

But my buddy in Minnesota has the MegaHeavy version he uses for big rubber. I've thrown his enough to know that it's a heck of a bargain. *shrug* Just food for thought. I'm not a pro by any means. Just a consumer trying to keep my head above water in today's crappy economy. I'm simply saying before anyone inquiring plunk down upwards of $450 for a new rod... the ones from Tackle Industries are worth researching.

| Again, I wasn't knocking any of the other rods. The reason I brought up the "100.00 to 150.00" price range comment, was because two other guys had suggested NOFEAR look into James's line of rods. That's cool & I get it. Believe me. I have have a Okuma 8'6" XXH, and think it's a great rod for the money, I even put up a link to a tackle online warehouse that had a one year aniversery 20% off deal going on, on a already "great priced rod".
The Okuma will DEFINITELY get the job done. I'm sure James's rods are great too. Do I think my Okuma is as nice as my Predator? No, I don't. That's JMHO. Also, it's not fair to Okuma for me to compare it to my Predator. Especially seeing how the Okuma was a quarter of the price.
As far as St. Croix & the Predator marking up there blanks 300.00 dollars more.... I don't know about that.... All I know was the final question asked in the first post "If you were to have a rod built for this application what would you purchase or have built? Length/Action/Power/Blank", was the what I was reffering to. (Predator)
