Location: Wisconsin | To get the best performance out of the transducers that you have installed with the HDS units, I picked up this good tip to pass on.
Hit Menu Twice, then down to INSTALLATION. Enter.
In the installation menu, click down to the TRANSDUCER TYPE. Enter.
Here you can pick the transducer you have hooked up to the unit. It might be on unknown, if you scroll down there will be menu options for HST-WSBL or WSU for the 83/200khz (skimmer) and the others. Pick yours and enter.
This setting will ensure the best broadband performance for the unit.

Location: Stevens Point, WI | Yes, the 83/200 is what you want. That transducer is for waters under 900 feet. The 50/200 is for waters 900 feet and deeper. |

Location: Wisconsin | I might have made it confusing, but after you have the unit and transducer installed, to go back into the menus and select the transducer type to match what you have installed..... Hope that clears it... |

Isn't there an update for the 50/200 transducer to be utilized in shallower water? |

| The ducder will work fine! If you go through the menu it just optimizes the ducer's performance... If you don't do the menu it just uses a default setting but still works. To set this you simply do the following.
Menu twice
scroll to sonar hit enter
scroll down to installation hit enter
scroll down to transducer type hit enter
then look on your transducer you will have a silver tag that says what is it
Example HST-DFSBL once you select that hit enter
then select save and you are done!
