what kind of paint sprayer are you guys using and about how much do they cost, what is all required/needed to have, also what kind of paint and what kind of "mesh" for scale patterns - i've never done anything like this before is it really difficult or not?? TIA

Midnight1,

Welcome to the forum.
Most builders use an airbrush for their baits, they range a great deal in price. I bought a $20 brush (10$ on sale) at Harbor freight to start with. I have a much better one now but still use the original a lot. You will need a compressor to power the brush, nothing fancy, just something you can adjust the pressure on (craigslist is a good place to start). I use a number of different types of mesh for scales, fruit/onion bags from the grocery store work well. I use waterbased paint exclusively (Createx is one brand) can be purchased at hobby stores. It is tricky to get started, but practice makes perfect.
I hope this helps,

MS

i have a 2 1/2 gallon pancake compressor i use for my nail guns...would that work or is it too big?

how small a sprayer is it that you got at harbor freight....i have one of those stores like 6 blocks from my house?....right now cheap sound good to start with...i might not even like trying this but the lures you guys post look SOOOO neat (and tempting)!!!!

thanks again

The 2 1/2 gallon will work fine as long as you can reduce the pressure to 30-40 psi.
this is a small airbrush, a little larger than a pencil. It should be by the automotive sprayers in the store.
Go to hobby Lobby or Michaels and get a sterter Createx kit (~20 bucks), it will have all the primary colors. After that there are a lot of small things like reducing paint and pressure issues that people on this site will be able to help with.
use the search engine on this site to get info, it can be very useful.

good luck,

MS
