Location: Land of the Musky | Anyone know what the handle length on the split grip on the 8'6" Legend Tournament® Musky Rod is? Looks to be 16" or 18" but I can't find anything on the site about it.

Location: South-Central PA | The length of the rear grip should be 14", the foregrip is 5" and it comes with a Fuji TCS size 18 reel seat. It's not a split grip, it's a full grip. A split grip on that rod would have been custom built, not factory.

Location: Kodiak, AK | You can get split grips from St. Croix no problem. I've got a Sling Blade and a Big Dawg both with factory split grips. I was taking a pic for you, but the camera died litterally as I was doing it, so it'll have to wait. But from the bottom of butt to the bottom of the reel seat is 16" and to the top of the fore grip is 24 1/4" I'll get pics up later when the battery is charged. |

Location: Duluth MN | The split grip is nice, but if you jerk Mega Ds or Pounders and use your ribs against the butt of the rod, your ribs will get bruised up from the split grip. |

Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | The handle on the 8'6" is approximately 18". To answer the initial question. I have been begging them to make a 20" split grip. Throwing big rubber would be breezy with the longer handle.
I prefer split grip to straight cork. I just like the cast prowess of he split better. There is a difference. I haven't had any issues with sore ribs except for opener. But then again I have a nice layer of natural insulation. |

Location: South-Central PA | I'm in the process of building a Lami in LGM102XH. I was torn about putting a split grip on it. I built a custom 8' swimbait rod with a split and I really like it. Based on everyone's opinion, I'm gonna give it a try on my Lami. I'll post some pictures when it's done. |

Leaning towards 18" with a 5" rear butt piece of tapered cork on the handle then another 5" section up towards the reel seat. Then a 6" fore grip. |

I'm leaning towards 18". My hand measures 7 3/4" from my first wrist crease to the tip of my middle finger. My forearm length is 9 1/2". 18" feels just about right for me, 16" is definitely too short for me. Your physical measurements will give you a pretty good idea of what length you need- although personal preference obviously comes into play. My fighting butt is 4 3/4". I just built it last night from a variegated EVA that I got at the Expo in High Point- I've never seen anything like it! I'm definitely going to have about a 4 1/2" to 5" grip behind the reel seat and a 5" or 6" fore grip. I should have my grips turned by the end of the week. Like I said, I'll post some pictures when I'm done. |

Here's the finished grip. I shortened the rear grip to 16 3/4". The foregrip is about 5 1/2". This variegated stuff is awesome. I'm thinking of doing a whilte abalone inlay between the split grips to add some flash. That, or leave the split grip plain and marble the guides black and white...too many decisions. Sorry for the bad pictures, it's the best I could do tonight.

Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | Weight/Balance like you mentioned. Plus, the casting seems to be easier with the small butt section like handle. Before split grips were available in musky models, I would either have grips made with a heavy flair, or use handle wrap to build up the butt. Also, when casting and sweeping the handle across your belly or out pulling the rod out of your pit, it doesn't catch like cork can on a coat, jacket, or bulky sweatshirt. I love my split grips. |
