Location: Northern Wisconsin | I have heard about how the older models of M.I. bulldawgs were made with softer/cheaper plastic. I have some from a few years ago that aren't very durable. I hear the new ones are more durable and made w different plastic. If you order online is there a way to tell if they are the newer ones or does it not matter? I'm thinking about ordering from rollie and helens...do they have the newer ones? |

Location: In a shack in the woods | It depends on what you order from r&h. I'm sure the normal colors will all be newer but I ordered the custom purple pounder last fall and they were old. Check muskytackleonline as well. Aaron has the keyes outdoors exclusive. Just got my new pro dawgs last week. |

| The only way I have found other than buying in person and actually looking for myself is buying them from MTO. He clearly states that they are made from the newer rubber on the site. I've made 2 orders this winter (probably 20 or more dawgs) and all have been the new rubber/hooks unless specified, and discounted.
Also he easily has the best price, and I'd say shipping was about 2 days quicker on average. |

Location: Hayward, WI | Yep, if you are getting them online, get them at Musky Tackle Online. I placed an order on Thursday and got them today. You'll know that they are the new ones, he has great prices, free shipping for orders over $75 (which doesn't take THAT many dawgs to get to), and he always ships fast. I got one of the Keyes custom colors too - pretty neat.
Other than that - I have no idea how to tell the difference.

Location: Hayward, WI | Aaron has shallow mag dawgs too, and they are the new plastic. Not sure how many colors he has of them. If you need to order them somewhere else and need to know if they are the new plastic, I think you will have to call and ask if they are the new or old plastic. I've ordered from Rollies a couple times, and they are also good with communication.

Location: Land of the Musky | In short from what I know any ProDawg you get has the new plastisol. Make sure you ask any discount lure website or (especially on eBay) what you are getting. Last I heard MI had about 40,000-50,000 of the older models to liquidate so they will be around for a while. I think most of what you will find at the big big retailers is still the older models. Just make sure you ask. For 100% new Dawgs go to Aaron at Musky Tackle Online. I know he will only buy the new Dawgs with new plastisol. |

Location: Land of the Musky | LOL I was at the Minneapolis Gander about 4 years ago and they had all of the Magnum Uptown Bulldawgs in a bin for $9.99. Bought about 100 of them and sold them on eBay for an average of $14 or so. The funny thing is, that is about what Gander pays for them wholesale. Went in a few weeks later to get another load and they were marked at $18.99 for the same ones. Have not figured out Gander Mountain yet. Best place to buy one week and the next week they are the most expensive. Not worth the drive anymore with MOL. |

I have seen that too! This year they put all old gander mountain spinning reels on clearance because they were getting new models in. Once the new models were in they put the remaining old models back on full price lol |

I hear the 9 inch sue has a much smaller profile than the mag dawg and the 11 inch sue is bigger. Even the shallow 11 inch sue still weighs 10 oz.. i can imagine that would sink pretty fast. |

Location: Hayward, WI | You are right that the 9" Sue is quite a bit smaller, and the 11" is somewhat bigger. However, even though the 11" is still 10 oz. it is my understanding that the rubber is relatively neutrally bouyant - it's the lead that's most responsible for making these rubber baits sink. Try to find a video of the shallow 11" Curly Sue. It looks like you can even keep it on top pretty easy.
Jake is right about the Curly Sues - they are tough! Andy has perfected the rubber mix on these. They are hard enough to really be durable, while still maintaining great tail movement. The Bulldawgs are very good now too, but it's hard to compete with Shack Attack lures. Saying all that - they are both different and I like having both of them.
Tackle Industries makes shallow Mag Dawg sized rubber baits that have really hard rubber on them too...

Tackle industries only has shallow versions of the mega superd (pounder sized) and the regular superd. They dont have shallow versions of the mag superd (mag dawg sized). Either way I know that each lure has it's own time and place and they all catch fish. |

Location: Medford, WI | Steve, as Tucker mentioned the 11" Sues are very similar to MagDawgs. If you're looking for something similar to a shallow magDawg, I would highly reccomend the shalloow version of the 11" curly sue. You can easily keep these in the top 2' of the water column without having to burn them in. Also, the sink rate on the curly sues are very similar to those of dawgs.
