Posts: 375 | i just received my first dd's and ddd's and i am not sure about the hook sizes that came on them. i have heard others say that they have changed out stock hooks on various baits for various reasons (i have as well) and was curious if the stock hooks on these are "ok" or have you found that a change-out is in order for these baits. the stock hooks look to be maybe 3/0 with an odd outbending at the point. thanks...

You will probably want to stick with the stock hooks on the DDD. They suspend at that weight pretty well, I wouldn't mess with it.

Posts: 107 Location: central illinois | i think the hooks on dd and ddd are 3/0 vmc 9617. they bend on big fish especially when you crank the drag all the way down like i do. i try to freespool my fish when fighting them sometimes when you cant get the button pressed thats when they bend those hooks. so i upgrade all my hooks on dd and ddd to 9626 4x strong 4/0 hooks. they are one size bigger and much stronger. they tangle every now and then but it hasnt been that much of a problem. i changed the hooks on most of my lures to the 9626 style last year. i try to put the biggest hooks on as possible without affecting the action of the lure or tangling too much. with last years experimentation of 9626 hooks i had my best year ever. as a matter of fact nov 22 i blasted a 51x21 on a dd with 4/0 9626 vmc hooks im thinking the shaughnessy bend might be better than the round bend.

Posts: 723 | am I under the impression that they changed the hooks to something else now other than the eagle claw 774's? that is what is on all my DDD's and like said, keep them on there! I do T those hooks a bit, but havent had any problems hooking or holding fish with the 774's, very strong and keep a good point to them. and they work well in the suspending of the bait. I believe theyre are 3's.

I haven’t bought a DDD in probably two years though to know if they have changed. I do know that if they have changed, I would switch them to the 3/0 774 Eagle Claws! Love the hook!
