I just wanted to do an informal survey. I’m all for C&R, but as you can tell by my moniker I’m on some kind of quest.
If you do carry one please describe. I have a retired Chicago cop’s billy club onboard.
Do you ever whack the sh!t out of a northern (you plan to eat) for practice?

Back in the 80's, Muskies Inc. had me convinced that no fish should come out of the water unless you plan to kill it. Thus, I never carried a net in the boat.... just a billy club loaded with about 10 oz. of lead in the head.

I no longer carry a billy club, and have a big beckman at my service. But, should I ever decide to WHACK one I have a heavy bolt cutters and/or needle nose pliers that will get the job done. The needle nose does a great job on the pike I whack for shore lunch.

I hate to admit it but "YES" there was a pontoon full of great looking sparsely clad young women and with my little 25 hp. motor I just couldn't out run them. I just can't think about what would have happened if I hadn't had that CLUB!! [:0]

I carry a tire checker for semi-trucks, you can get one at any truck stop. It's like a wood billy club that is filled with lead......works great. I don't carry it for clubbing fish but for evening the score at the landing with jacka$$ water/jet skiers that I wasn't able to nail with a Viper. []

Looks like it's back into the loch with you nessy

I have a club and I'm not afraid to use it.
Any fish that I keep for food are dispatched immediately before they go into the cooler of ice.

Yup for safety reasons as described by Sworrall...

Last time I wacked a fish was a 32lb Chinook back in 79 or 80 when I used to fish Michigan for salmon/trout.

Yes I do, made one in junior high with a little added weight. Great for pike, walleyes, carp, and jet skis that I can catch with my ole' rig.

Nope

I am sure once I capture that world record fish that she will die fast enough and will not need to damage the skin or cause undo bleading and lessen the weight. [:p]

Interesting topic, a few months ago at our MI meeting our speeker had a club on the table, which definitely sent some ideas through my little mind. He started of with the club, and stated it was one of the most important tools in his boat! In handling a fish if you ever get hooked tp a fish, it is getting clubbed, no fish is worth seriously damaging your hand. I will probably go back to carrying a club after that presentation.

Good luck
