Location: Racine, Wi | I'm still working on getting the knack of fly tying down, but here are a few I've tied this winter. The pics don't show the eyes as at the time I didn't put them on yet, but hopefully you get the picture. Feel free to post some of yours as well as I'm looking for some ideas and also to get better at this. I think on the synthetic baitfish type streamers, I tied the grey and tan streamers a tad to thick, but we'll see what they look like in the water. Those are just synthetic hair and bucktail for color with some flashabou added in as well.
The black leach looking pattern is synthetic hair with rabbit fur for a body and head and a pair of lead eyes to work it on the bottom.
The fire tiger looking fly is one that I saw on a website. I'll have to find it again as it's a wild looking pattern, but should look awesome in the water.

Location: MN | Here are some patterns I tied up last weekend; same general pattern with slight differences in body & head design. Both patterns tied on a TMC 6/0, primarily with Yak Hair. I haven't casted these yet but I expect them to cast well; they are tied hollow style which adds the illusion of bulk without the extra materials.
Maybe the AftonAngler can pipe in; my next project is tying his "Hang Time" with the trailer.

Location: Kodiak, AK | I'll tie up whatever the client wants, which is usually bucktail or along the lines of a Deceiver or bunny leech. For me personally and for my own use, I'm all about Flashabou, yak hair, Big Fly Fiber, big eyes and often diving lips. There's no rules. Make it big, make it move and make it bombproof. |

I like the streamers in the top row. I used to tie and all Icelandic Sheephair pattern similar to yours and the pike couldn't stand it; I was out-fishing my boat partner 6:1 and he was using tackle. Anyhow, this pattern was neutrally buoyant, when I would pause the fly, the sheephair would adulate and breath... one more quick/small strip and boom they'd eat it. This fly was deadly for two reasons: a. Neutral Buoyancy b. Motion without Movement. This presentation is unique to fly fishing, hard to copy with musky tackle/lures.

| Those are all really nice, I guess I am kinda simple but for the pike and tiger muskie we have out west, I have used a black fly and a chart. fly for about 90% of my fish...They seem to be willing to eat either of them or both on some days...BR |

Not really any recipes; I've never been much for them. Just like I mention above, yak, Flashabou, Icelandic sheep in different configurations, colors and dressings. When tying for myself, I like to use hooks much larger than most people tie with. I tie with 10/0, which is too large for most people to enjoy. So my recipes would have 10/0 Gamakatsu Octopus as the hook, when most guys would prefer a Mustad 34007 maybe at 4/0 or 5/0. Either hook will work.

Location: Racine, Wi | The firetiger fly in my link is my first attempt at the hang time. It's actually not too difficult to tie, and he provides a good step by step progression of how to tie it. Next is a black, grey, white hang time.
It's fun tying these things. Can't wait to throw them on opening day.  |
