Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | All hydraulic cylinder's will eventually leak around the ram. Biggest culprit is dirt/sand, clean them off w/ a paper towel before you lower the motor. Although a little hydraulic fluid on the towel might also help, they relube themselves when you lower the motor, . Especially if you're driving on dirt roads or road w/ slush/snow/salt/sand mixes.
A leak means if fluid is coming out- air is going in, and if you have a leak you need to get it fixed, i.e. eventually there will not be enough fluid to lube the pump properly. It's also important to have enough fluid to keep the pump cool enough while it's running. A new pump will be much more costly.
Have fun!
