Just discovered slight leak from around the lower portion of the power trim on my Optimax. Has anyone had any issues with this. It seems to be some sort of seal leak from what I can tell. Just curious to determine cost of fixing.

I had a leak in the power trim system on my 115 mariner on my old rig. I didn't realize it til it was too late though. Water got in the the housing for the power trim motor and froze during the winter months. Ended up costing me around $700 for repairs.

All hydraulic cylinder's will eventually leak around the ram. Biggest culprit is dirt/sand, clean them off w/ a paper towel before you lower the motor. Although a little hydraulic fluid on the towel might also help, they relube themselves when you lower the motor, . Especially if you're driving on dirt roads or road w/ slush/snow/salt/sand mixes.

A leak means if fluid is coming out- air is going in, and if you have a leak you need to get it fixed, i.e. eventually there will not be enough fluid to lube the pump properly. It's also important to have enough fluid to keep the pump cool enough while it's running. A new pump will be much more costly.
