Posts: 104 Location: Hudson, WI | i just bought an 8'6" gander mountain muskie rod with lure weights 1-6oz. I got this rod mainly for double cowgirls and throwing plastics. I have been looking around for a reel to go with it but I am not sure what would be best for throwing those lures. im looking at possibly a 6600 c4 or an abu garcia kalex. Would these reels be good for this? and if not what suggestions do you have? thanks

Posts: 743 | if you want an abu garcia i recommend a 6500 c3 over the 6600 c4. the c3 has lower gear ratios. better for those cowgirls and plastics

Not unless you have the arms of a body builder. The torque on a C4 is hard on a guy's wrist when burning them. Its much better with a C3 with a power handle.

Posts: 582 | and Abu C3 for DCG's??? no way.. not a chance. but good luck. I wouldn't consider it. spend your money on a better reel if you plan to throw large baits.

The 7000 red doesn't cost much more. C3 doesn't compare for burning double 10's unless you are buying the 7000 C3 not the 6500 C3. Do a google search I found the 7000 red for 120.

Posts: 125 Location: North Saint Paul, MN | I agree with Jackson. The C3's and C4's are not built to handle those big baits. They will do it, but they will burn out a lot faster than a higher quality reel. I would look at getting a Calcutta TE. That's what I use to throw all my big baits and it works just fine.
