alot of people are making the reference 'if you dont like it dont watch it" thats fine but if I dont watch it I still dont want an influx of boats on a certain body of over water beating the crap out of it because they saw footage on somebodys show.

I like the Keyes Outdoors production, but I also haven't found a musky video that I haven't liked. I find value in watching how other musky fisherman approach the sport.

However, I have a huge issue with telling the world where you are fishing, identifying effective patterns on those waters, and running around with a camera showing the spots. We can learn a lot about how they caught fish without spilling the beans on everything including location and a great screen shot of the location. Unfortunately, pressure is growing and combat fishing sucks. I have seen pressure increase on some (near and dear) fisheries where they have filmed; fisheries which were hardly on the map before the episode. Is this a little sellfish of me? Yes. But I think all of us don't like competing to fish our home waters which we have countless hours invested in learning and understanding.

I totally agree with you and do not consider your thoughts selfish. Camera shots of specific landmarks can always be edited out and the show would still be as entertaining. Naming the lake hurts a bit, but showing specifics will get those who may have been intimidated by a certain body of water the confidence and knowledge to add it to their list.Watching certain episodes can drastically shorten the learning curve about a body of water, which results in more traffic.

On another note, Muskyhunter did the same on a particular show.

After their first fall trolling show on the Fox River 2006 I asked Mike why they had to mention that they were in Depere trolling the Fox River every 5 mins during the show and the response I got was that the City paid them to come there and do a show and they had to mention where they were. Again great show's my personal fav but I dont think it's right that they give out the names.

Obfuscate, you're right! I'm sorry about that. It was the first show I worked on and I got carried away! I wasn't aware of the pressure it would bring. Live and learn! I brought this up with Mike and I will be much more careful in the future!

Keyes Outdoors is a great show! I don't think any TV show, website, or magazine article should have to apologize for providing information on the sport, whether technique/location/etc. I think that everyone has a right to go a place that has a musky fishery that they have learned about through such a medium to experience the fishery. Increased pressure has resulted in me becoming a better fisherman. More people will begin fishing for Muskys every year, that is a fact I am sure. If this bothers you try to channel your 'energy' into musky stocking programs, fishing conservation clubs or those involved in rules and regulations to enhance our fisheries.

IMOHO...

Keyes has been one of my favorites because:
- More grass roots and muskie focussed than any other show
- I like the raw/rougher footage
- Just good ol' boys having fun fishing
- Mike gets more excited about a 40 incher than most
- Variety of muskie fishing styles/situations/locations
- Opening song/footage is so cool...
* Could stand a bit less hype for sponsors...
* Really hope format doesn't deviate much, we don't have anything else on TV like this

Musky Hunter:
- Excellent video quality/editing
- Big fish
- Decent educational content (sometimes too basic)
- Too scripted
- Very different from anthing else on TV
- One of my favorites

Bucher
- Don't watch it anymore
- 12 min of smallies, 6 min of muskie, advertising = not very interesting to me
- Don't like pole mounted camera - almost get sea sick...
- Content of muskie related talk is not educational
- I think many times the head of the fish are out of the water way too long while unhooking in the net

The Next Bite
- Can't get it any more - Used to have it on Direct TV, but they couldn't get a new contract with Comcast
- Not enough muskie content...
- Would like to see more educational focus - Pete has more to share
- Wish I could still get it...

Woods n Waters
- Love the raw, but well edited footage
- Like the variety, but prefer more muskie
- John's enthusiam is over the top, hilarious, makes him unique
- Wouldn't miss it

Personally, I have to put the mute on Waters and Woods, because John Gillespie's volume can be so irritating. Thank God for Closed Captioning !!!

I think his tournament coverage is boring to watch and his show has become a infomercial for his sponsors. I no longer watch it.

I think the BIG PICTURE is being missed here. KO is one of the few musky shows out there, and quite plainly, if you don't like watching it, then you probably shouldn't - why use a forum on a website to make an anonymous bash on friends of our shared interest - musky fishing. There are too many bass shows out there, of which I personally don't relate well to because I'm a musky man myself, and boy, isn't it interesting that you can often see the shoreline all around their boat. . . Not a lot of stocked farm ponds have names.

It also comes down to finances. Camera clarity and camera men, mostly cost money and a lot of it. In our small industry, whom do you suppose wants to jump into something small and sponsor it - furthermore, how many of our musky tackle companies can afford to promote the show with commercials, etc?

I for one am a huge fan of the Keyes Outdoors, as well as the Badfish crew. These are real guys like you and I who can put you on the water when your laid up in bed or stuck at home. I appreciate watching local dudes fising local water for a species I favor and can relate to, I tend to vear away from fishing bones on the sandflats of the keyes, or hunting Texas bucks in the dry desert looking fenced ranches. So consider applauding the series, or else stay tuned for more bass fishing and saltwater fishing. . . If you can relate to it.

I'd like to defend the recipricol of this statement. Keep in mind that tournament fishing has become a key component in supporting our small industry. Tackle shops, tackle producers and taxidermests our what keeps you on the water, but realize that what seperates most of musky tackle is that it is handmade in a basement somewhere - very few are outsourced and molded into plastic in mass quantities. These lure manufacturers depend on more than word of mouth advertising and MH advertising. TV shows like the Keyes Outdoors, as well as tournaments are huge advertising promotional opportunities for these vendors and manufacturers. As a tournament angler myself, I can't tell you how many times we roll into a small town, like Eagle River, and find a certain lure is working from the locals or from prefishing - next thing you know, all the similar baits in a particular color are sold out at Guides Choice and Eagle Sports, etc. Weather you like tournament fishing or not, understand that money is what makes this world spin, and it's definitely a necessity to continue growing our tiny industry.

I support the tournament coverage because I can relate. It also teaches a lot about the water the tournament is being held on, which to many provides an akward disadvantage in that it can unveil anglers spots and tactics, which for many who have been in this limelight, can hold the idea in ill-regard, but for others, can be helpful. It also supports the promoters of our industry.

"Great show this weekend" you must be kidding! They filmed the capture of exactly 2 fish neither of which was much over 40" if at all. I liked this show as well but this weekends' episode wasn't good at all. I honestly can't remember a half hour show done about muskies that only showed 2 being caught. If I was Hammernick I wouldn't be thrilled with it either. We were promised a great show this weekend and a Just in Case infomercial broke out.

Because some folks like/dislike any show doesn't make it great/horrible. Ratings are the real deal, and if Keyes is doing OK there, he's hitting it in the numbers. If he isn't, his sponsors will let him know, and he'll adjust, I bet.
