Posts: 20219 Location: oswego, il | This is being presented Wednesday so We all need to sign it by Tuesday. I have created an online petition for all who support finding a solution to the fish loss at Shabbona Lake. Please sign this petition, if you are going to the Chicago Musky Show stop by and say hi. We will have a paper copy of the petiton at the show if you would rather sign a paper copy. We are open to all suggestions and ideas. I do not want this post to start a "bash the IDNR", we just need to show them that we want their time and money to be spent on this project. Please follow the link below to sign this petition. http://www.PetitionOnline.com/shabbona/petition.html

Posts: 20219 Location: oswego, il | Think about this. Quad County hawg Hunters do a couple musky rescues there each year. They have resued over 70 muskies in one evening and 102 total for one year. This is a 318 acre lake! There are musky lakes that size that do not even have 102 muskies in them! How many more evaded capture and were to far downstream to be recaptured? I think if we knew the answer to that question and then figured the cost of that loss, we would need some drywall work and some aspirin. The fix to this problem would pay for itself very quickly.

Posts: 3 | I received this email from Dan Sallee yesterday regarding the spillway barrier proposal. Clint and Rich, I apologize for getting re-prioritized away from our scheduled meeting. Ken Clodfelter shared your plans with me. If it can be permitted, I think your proposed barrier has merit. It solves your goal of preventing fish escapement, and keeps the clubs from having to risk life and limb trying to carry fish up the goat paths below the dam. Bob Smith, our Regional Engineer shares Ken and my view that this basic design might be an effective barrier. Bob is checking with the Office of Water Resources to see if there is any hope of getting the structure permitted. Bob is also checking to see what was required to get the permits for Otter, KinKaid, and Evergreen. As you can read progress is being made. I would like to thank everyone that signed the petition or helped out in any way. While there are still some hurdles to cross we are making progress. The best part about it is that if it works at Shabbona Lake then the same design can be implemented anywhere where fish go over a spillway. Clint Sands
