HST combines the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Provincial Sales Tax (PST) into a single sales tax...........13% tax......no a lot of difference from the 8% and 5% taxes today.....right....but....

Although the taxes on a lot of things remain the same, I see my trip costs going up.

What does that mean? effective July 1, 2010.

13% tax housekeeping cabin. use to be 10%

13% tax on gasoline........use to be exempt. small increase to cheap gas...eh..

Since gasoline, heating fuels, and electricty, are no longer exempt, resorts will probably have to raise rates.

I've heard there is still a 50% tax refund for those travel packages....not sure about that.

Can't beat the cost of big government programs. Someone has to pay.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmonized_Sales_Tax

"polls show that 82% of British Columbians and 74% of Ontarians oppose it"

"130 countries have moved to harmonized sales tax systems including four Canadian provinces.[3][5] Evidence from numerous studies shows that harmonization raises business investment and that PST-type taxes slow down provincial growth. The HST is set to replace the PST, a cascading tax system which has been abandoned by most economies throughout the world.[2]

The main drawback to the value added tax is that it is far more complex to administer compared to a cascading tax. Of the ten provinces, only Quebec has successfully implemented a separate VAT system. A province looking to replace its cascading tax with a value added tax can save the considerable expense of a separate administation by implementing the HST and having the existing federal GST system collect a provincial value added tax on its behalf.
"

Who knows, congress may be considering similar action for the US....not us, just the United States....eh...

Here's link for rebates for select travel packages :
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/gi/notice221/notice221-e.html

Some of that tax (GST / HST) money is used to justify government rebate programs - rebates for energy efficiency or improvements to your home.
It's like the Govt realized they took too much money out of the system and now need to infuse it back to keep capital moving. Sound familiar ?

Stay at Walsh's Bay Store Camp on LOTW - all USD.

It's called redistribution of wealth. They take as much money and control as they can then act like they are doing you a huge favor by doling it out in bits and pieces. But what they are really doing is taking everbodies money and giving it to whomever they deem fit . Just let everyone keep more of their hard earned money so they can spend it as they want to but by doing that they loose control over the people and that is a certain parties goal, complete control over its citizens.
