Location: Westerville, Ohio | Does anyone here mix Etex by weight? If so, does one ounce of hardener weigh the same as one ounce of resin? If not, what is the formula for mixing by weight? What kind of scale do you use and where can I get one? I am currently using the the little clear plastic ketchup containers like you would find at Mc D's. I set them side by side and pour what appears to be exact amounts into them then, pour them into a larger cup and mix. last year I had one batch turn out soft. |

Location: Oregon | The instructions say to mix it by volume, not weight. Get yourself a couple of syringes from a farm supply store and use eequal amounts. Mix in a dixie cup and make sure you get all the edges.

Location: Land of the Musky | Small plastic shot glasses work well too. Or dixi cups if you need that much. I do 1L at a time in a cookie pan for my Grunts. Just role them around, hang and hit with a torch lightly. Same thing the next day and hang reverse and it gets a nice smooth finish. The epoxy when dried pops out of the Teflon cookie pan when your done real nice too for cleanup. |

| Measure by volume, I use the small food measuring cups of various sizes depending on the amount needed, but the mixing is just as important, it says mix for three minutes but I mix for five and never have a problem. |

| Hi there, I totally agree with Riverman. I have a small batch of 21 walleye baits on my drying rack that I just got finished putting on the second coat. I always measure my extex mixture with disposable syringes that I got at a vet clinic. The plastic disposable syringes are very reasonable priced & can be used for a long period of time. I use a seperate syringe for the hardner & for the resin. I mark these syringes to make sure I use the right one for the hardner & resin the next time. When I use a new syringe for the first time I rinse it out with acetone or finger nail polish remover. I have never had any problems mixing this way. Equal amounts of resin & hardner, mix well & let sit for about 5 minutes to remove air bubbles. Heat can be applied to remove bubbles but EZ does it. Too much heat & the Etex won't cure properly. If I'm doing small baits & I see any air bubbles I just blow on it as this removes the air bubbles. You don't have to wait until the Etex is totally dry to apply the next coat. Wait until its well set but if its just abit tacky you can apply the next coat. EZ does it & just use common sense. Good luck & if you have any questions email or pm me. Thanks & I hope this helps. Location: mpls | By weight is the most accurate. Buy a small postal scale. One to one by weight. I use a custom Etex product right now, but have used Etex Light in the past. Both products are "one to one" . Once I went to weight vs. by volume, I never had problems again with "soft cures" or tackiness.
