I have a 50 HP johnson 4 stroke. It has a regular side mounted oil filter (exactly like a car, just smaller).
My Question is this...... Do you need an oil filter wrench to make that last quarter turn when tightening?
I have never done this before, if i need something such as a special wrench i want to buy it ahead of time.

Thanks for your help......

When tightening? No. Not unless you're a mondo wimp, in which case you shouldn't be changing your oil in the first place. Be sure to lube the gasket with oil, and you'll go past that quarter turn so easily, you'll want to give it a full turn. I usually go half-three quarter past contact.

Wrist tight is all you need. Before you put the cowling back together, start the motor and check to make sure that the filter does not leak any oil once pressurized.
