Wondering what everyone uses for an airbrush. I have been making bucktails for several years and have been starting to get into other baits as well. I have an older airbrush but it is a piece of junk and I am wanting something that is easier to use and easier to clean. I am guessing everyone uses the ones with the hopper on top???? Is this correct? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

After trial and error, using bottles below, the cup on top is the way to go. I bought an Iwata Eclipse a month ago and it is a dream to use. I am selling my Paasche to a local lady who wants to try ab-ing. Like anything else, practice, practice, practice. There are sites about ab-ing, teaching. and the whatnot. Enjoy!

Thanks for the reply. I guess I am looking for a good starter kit. I have been doing some research on the internet and the prices seem to be all over the place. I did find this one does this seem like a fair price???

Ive never used Paasche myself, but was about to buy one last year. But after some researching, and talking to people I ended up with an IWATA Eclipse, and I am glad I did. I see that they have a kit, with comp. and some paint at Chicago airbrush supply, its alittle more exspensive tho.
I can also highly recomend Chicago Airbrush Supply, very nice people to deal with!

I got the badger with the cup on top and "universal" tip.
It's just OK, details are tough with it. I think next one will be the IWATA

I started with a Pasche and went to an Iwata. The Iwata has just one needle and one tip, but it works fine for details after I learned to turn the pressure down and thin the paint more. I use nothing but House of Kolor paints, no water based for me, and it cleans up very easy. There isn't one thing about the Iwata that I don't like.

I use a Badger 360, which gives the option of using it as a gravity feed(cup on top) or siphon feed(jar on bottom). I have been very happy with it, although I primarily use it in gravity feed mode.

Dixie Art had the best prices I found on them.

So i guess i'm torn between the paasche and the iwata. Now, the paasche comes with 4 differnt heads, i guess for spraying thinner or heavier, and the iwata only comes with one. Wouldn't you want the additional heads for spraying different patterns???

Also, I noticed the paasche comes with a bunch of brushes for cleaning and the iwata comes with nothing. What is all involved with cleaning these things??? Is the iwata just easier to clean so you don't need all the brushes????

Thanks again for the help guys!!!!!

IWATA!!!!!!!

I've used Paasche, Badger, and Iwata. Iwata is the best...hands down. The brushes are no value add for me...the Iwata is very simple to clean

After using two diff brushes, they are built the same way, the smae internal parts. Water clean up, as I use only Createx. The Paasche VL kit I bought had the 3 diff needles and tips, but I didnt experiment enought to determine what worked. Bubbles in the bottles, clogging tips, etc. The Eclipse comes with just one needle and tip, no extra variables thrown in to confuse a rookie. I am gaining confidence with every session. Using transparent paints over a foiled body is neat to see. Play with the pressure on your compressor, as you dont need a lot to push the paint. A sticky button on the VL drove me to drink, and then the Eclipse started to do the same last night. It was the hose conection to the ab, too tight. Look at some websites on ab-ing. Lots of lessons there. It is very addicting.
