This is not a Lowrance bash. I like Lowrance, and am finally happy with my HDS8...after swapping my first unit for another.

Long story short, Lowrance HDS doesn't tend to like to work with Navionics Premium cards. Not saying always, just the THREE that I've messed with in the past two weeks have had a strong aversion to my 2009 Premium North cards, both on version 2.1 and 2.5. The unit locking up, rebooting, not zooming in.....on and on. Put in Platinum chips tonight and presto! Works like a champ. Lowrance is aware of the Premium issues. The 2.5 update was for SS and to help with Premium compatibility among other things.

So if this can be of help to anyone who's planning on using HDS, maybe I can save you the two weeks of troubleshooting, returns and asking for help that I've been through. Lowrance makes a good product, just a bit frustrating having to spend $300 on new cards, but now the unit appears to be working as it should. Had I known this two weeks ago, I'd have saved some cash and maybe gotten Insight or made sure I had a cheap source for the Platinum cards.

All that said, HDS looks AWESOME with Platinum chips!

This is just FYI.
