Have any of you guys used the Okuma 7'4/7'6 Heavy action rods? I'm just wondering how they would compare(action wise) to the St croix 7'6 Heavy actions? Thinking about possibly upgrading my jerkbait rod here pretty soon. I just bought the Okuma 8'6 XXH for dbl 10's and magdawgs and I must say I really like it, but just curious how their heavy actions compare to similar St. Croixs?

I have the 7'4" Okuma EVX and the 7'6" StCroix Premiere you mention. Both are great rods and compareable in every way except price.

The only thing i can remember when looking at both of them was the SC was ligher weight i believe. Noticibly lighter.. Can anyone verify that?

"rod weight"...great point! i find it "interesting" that very few rod manufacturers list the weight of their rods up front whereas st. croix does! i can only assume it's because other manufacturers don't want you to be able to compare that data with other brands such as st. croix, who knows that their rods are much lighter weight than others. for what it's worth, that's one of the many reasons i own nothing but croix legends. in my opinion, there is much more that goes into a rod buying choice than just price "point" which is the "point" where most manufacturers want you to stop shopping at. i am not 100% sure but i would bet a bulldawg that you would have a much better shot at being able to have a conversation with a person that builds st. croix rods vs. a person that builds okuma products...

My 7'6" Okumas are not noticeably heavier than any other rod I own, including a couple St Croix models. I wouldn't 'assume' too much, most rod builders are not listing what the rod weighs because that's not a standard in the business. I buy Okuma in several models because it's the best rod for my application, for MANY reasons, not just price (but the price IS good). I also have a couple new Tooth Tamers in actions and lengths I love for my Weagles and Wabulls, great rods at a good price from good folks.

Hello Stushsky... My Name is Mark Rogers and I work for Okuma Fishing Tackle. I have worked on creating the EVX Muskie rods with our rod engineers for all but two of the Rods in the series. I would be willing to answer any questions that anyone has regarding them. I'm in Minneapolis but when I return to the office, I'll get the weight of the rods for those that want to know.

sorry mark, maybe i jumped the gun. where exactly are the okuma product factories located? i do own products made across the pond...daiwa lunas for example because i couldn't find an american made left handed reel that met my needs...which is why my most recent purchase was an avet reel which is made in the usa and is left handed. i do beleive some of us still look for american made products yet some companies just don't bring that fact to the attention of the consumers. i realize that there are no industry "standards", i just found it "interesting" that some product manufacturers are at ease providing more information than others so consumers can compare in more detail if they choose to especially for items like these where most of us can not see or touch them before purchasing...

BTW, i love my okuma XXH 8'6" rod. I just had to get that off my chest. I don't have a SC 8'6" rod so i can't compare the weight, however i do have a Black river H 7'6" amd a SC 7'6" MH. The SC is lighter but it seems it should be since it's a MH rod vs a Heavy Action rod. Weight aside, i don't think the difference is going to make a big difference to most people. The black river was worth the price as the rod handled a nice fish with ease (the day i got it).

There are alot of good rods on the market today and what is great about okuma is the warranty and some of the features like the telescoping handle. It's a nice rod for big baits. I guess what i am saying is SC isn't the only game in town anymore. Their prices are high, and others are coming in lower that make a great product. If i find a SC i like, i will get it, but now i get to look at the competition too for less money and better warranties than SC.

If price is a concern and country of origin is not then perhaps you should compare the St. Croix Triumph TRM76HF with the Okuma?

if value is a concern, price is not the problem...where is okuma made...? croix legends are the lightest bar none and made in the usa unless someone can prove different...

Buy an old Penn. Even U.S. Reels (company name) are manufactured overseas, along with Garcias.

not on their websites. You can't claim it's made in the USA if it's not. Look for MADE or MANUFACTURED in the USA, not designed, created, developed, engineered, etc. in the USA. Any yahoo can call a tubular composite factory in china and order a bunch of 96" rods built to their specifications and claim it was "designed in the USA"

Sorry about the directions this thread has taken Bubba, to answer your question, the Okuma is heavier in overall rod weight and softer in the tip than the TRM76HF. Hope that helps.

EVX-C-741H = 11.6 ounces
EVX-C-761H = 8.6 ounces
EVX-C-801H = 10 ounces
EVX-T-801H = 14.8 ounces
EVX-C-861H-T = 10.8 ounces
EVX-C-861XH-T = 11.0 ounces
EVX-C-861XXH-T = 14.8 ounces
EVX-C-931H-T = 12.6 ounces
EVX-C-931XH-T = 13.8 ounces
EVX-C-6101XH = N/A

All of the rods mentioned above are made in China.

* Some of the weights are with packaging and hang tags.

And yes... I have built a rod from scratch... rolled the scrim on a mandrel... baked it, trimmed it off the mandrel, wrapped guides, etc... etc... I think it was a Walleye Bulldawg that Slamr wanted.
