So two identical baits, Believer, Stalker, cranks, whatever....when do you choose jointed or straight? I like the jointed action, but obviously there's a place for the straight versions or they wouldn't sell them.

I've got some of each, so when to fish what? Advantages? Disadvantages?

That's a good question. I haven't thrown a straight believer since I switched to the jointed one's. That's been atleast 2-3 years ago.

I use them both for trolling. I don't cast anything that's jointed, except the 10" Beleiver as a surface bait. Seems jointed runs higher and is less bouyant trolling. Straight baits can handle more trolling speed sometimes from what I've seen. Jointed baits you're also getting extra sound from the body sections whacking together. Most of what I troll is jointed in shallower water, all the big fall baits we're using this time of year are solid. Some of the best trolling and cating baits ever made are offered in solid and jointed, buy one of each! Beleiver, Perchbait, OutKast, Stalker, Woodie, Wiley, on an on. I like the way that Krisco looks too! Watched the poolside vid, the rubber tail version has half the action as the std one just like I thought.

Long ago, when he lived near Boulder Junction, I spent a day fishing with Joe Bucher. At one point, he spotted an old wooden, jointed Pikie in my box and told me to cast it. After seeing/approving its action & running depth he said: "Oh...That's a fall bait, Chuck! If you don't want it, you can leave it in the boat."

Since then, I've always thought of jointed baits as: "fall baits"

Bucher says that jointed baits give the appearance of speed, without actually moving fast ... read his crankbait book .... I pretty much just troll them though, mostly throw Big Rubber, or Big Gliders in the fall .....

If any of these conditions apply:
Dirty water, Summer(warm), Wind, active fish = Jointed
Clean water, Fall(cooler), Calm, less active fish = Straight

Sounds about right Chad. I got a nice 43 last weekend in a small craft advisory on a Super Believer in mud and wind. Figured I wanted as much noise out there as I could get.

I tend to lean toward straight if I know I'm going to be ripping through the weeds or if I need to suspend. Jointed at night or dirty water.

I don't fall for what I like, the fish tell you by there mood what they want.
When there feeding and there in a good mood they like the jointed but when there in a funk I will do better with the straight lures.
I suggest having both on hand

Yep, got both, but my 44 tonight in another small craft advisory, wind, rain, waves, dark water went for another Super Believer. I've been thinking about this alot the past couple of days, an you guys are confirming my thoughts on it. Picked up a straight $9 Bass Muskie Train.

Nice fish, I do notice that the Jointed Believers jog more then the straights do in most casses, we fished on Lake St Clair this year and my friend put a 50 in the boat on the jointed Believer.
